Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree from an accredited College in computer technology, computer science, information technology or network communications technology; or equivalent.

Knowledge of:

Networking concepts.

Internet technologies necessary for server (physical and virtual) implementation, configuration, maintenance, and security.

Extensive knowledge of multiple versions of windows products based on campus standards.

Troubleshooting, problem-solving techniques and repair techniques.

Active Directory, Active Directory Federation Services, and LDAP.

Principles of Client Server technologies and VMWare Virtual Infrastructure.

Basic knowledge of College environment and the use of technologies to support the business and administrative activities of the College.

Basic knowledge of current cyber security principles and best practices for training, mobile technologies security awareness, software and operating systems security awareness.

Ability to:

Read, interpret and apply complex technical manuals, publications, and other documents.

Analyze and interpret data to identify problems and possible solutions.

Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Perform basic system administration tasks on a variety of hardware platforms.

Maintain an effective working relationship with the Networking function of the Department.

Maintain an effective working relationship with the areas of the College responsible for the academic web functions.

Ability to effectively work with a wide variety of people.

Provide assistance, training, and instruction to faculty and staff on technical matters appropriate to assigned area.

Interpret and apply College policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Read, understand and interpret hardware and software manuals, apply such information as appropriate.

Provide training in the use of computer 3rd party software applications.

Plan, organize and prioritize work with a minimal amount of supervision.

Two years of computer software/hardware experience required. Demonstrated technical expertise in support of current operating systems required. Experience working in software and web server administration, integration skills, networking and database fundamentals are a plus. Ability to work under pressure on multiple tasks, completing them accurately and in a timely manner.

Position Description

Announcement Summary

Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking qualified applicants for Computer Support Specialist to administer, install, implement, and maintain the hardware and software applications used to support the College’s primary administrative and business functions, including the host and all associated administrative servers and 3rd party applications. Manage and lead all dictated software, hardware, database and application upgrades and migrations, enhancements, and security patches. To assist in the development of training needs for the College. This position’s responsibilities require independent analysis, communication and problem solving. Duties are performed with little supervision and require initiative and judgment.

Duties

Work with data and predictive applications to help measure collection aggregations of student engagement, retention, and success.

Work with vendors to obtain data assessments through data mappings of science-based systems.

Assist with the project development stages of organization, design, implementation, maintenance and analysis. Provide leadership in selection training of software applications.

Coordinate on-demand, interactive, engaging cybersecurity training campaigns combined with simulated social engineering attacks through email, phone and text.

Establishes, cultivates, and maintains effective working relationships with internal partners and external constituencies, managing outreach to key partners and leveraging these relationships to best support the seamless execution of admission events.

Work with the leadership of the college to develop innovative solutions in an effort to improve the educational experience of students.

Assist with the system administration activities of all 3rd party College applications (hosted and on-premise).

Assist with performing diagnostics and monitoring of the administrative server environment to maintain an efficient and secure environment.

Assist with maintaining operating system and application software release levels in the administrative server environment as published by vendors.

Assist 3rd party vendors in the proper use of computer hardware, software and equipment within the established industry and College standards and guidelines.

Assist in maintaining documentation that describes the administrative server environment and all operational procedures.

Create technical solutions to automate, monitor, test, and deploy applications. Designs methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying system and log data for security, performance, and capacity planning needs.

Provide on-going technical assistance to customers regarding systems and applications. Makes recommendations to stakeholders to increase efficiencies in systems.

Download software patches from the Internet, test and install as necessary.

Provide technical support for 3rd party applications as well as perform day-to-day administration, maintenance, and training.

Coordinate vendor support between the College and manufacturer representatives for hardware and software information for computer systems; maintain information about equipment and installation; identify software users and recommend packages or other approaches as assigned.

Provide training to end-users in the proper operation of computer software and applications.

Frequently required to stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and walk.

Occasionally required to climb stairs.

Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.

Required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel object, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.

Hear Audible equipment indicators and verbal communications in the environment.

Must see with sufficient close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception; and focus adjustment to differentiate light/color intensity and evaluation perceivable changes in the environment.

Perform related duties as assigned.
