Two or more years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of modern computer (hardware & software) and related peripheral equipment in a fast paced networked environment. Experience working within a multi-user classroom environment.

DEFINITION:
To perform a variety of complex and technical duties involved in assisting with preparation of IT equipment & materials, classroom and laboratory computers, hardware & software needs, networking and security systems and peripherals, and to assist faculty and students related with technical support, and application support; and to perform various IT support services directly related to the Information Technology program and the Business Technologies Department and related programs.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives general supervision from the Business Technologies Department Chair.
Works independently and may exercise functional and technical supervision over instructional assistants and work study students.
Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTION STATEMENTS--Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions:
Network Administration and maintenance duties:
- Maintain, test, install, troubleshoot, and repair computers and peripheral equipment including networked devices.
- Manage Sandbox to CFCC Active Directory user synchronization – allows students to log in to sandbox with CFCC credentials.
- Assign users to correct Group Policy in AD to have permissions needed to perform labs in a designated classroom.
- Manage Sandbox wireless network (apply updates and work with IT services to make sure our sandbox wireless does not interfere with CFCC’s wireless network.
Software/Hardware Management and Engineering Duties:
- Load and modify computer software/hardware to facilitate computer classrooms and labs for students.
- Troubleshoot and alleviate software problems including computer O/S and application configuration.
- Manage desktops and software for Electronics Engineering Tech classrooms. Install and configure software to work with equipment used in EET labs.
- Diagnose and analyze computer related problems and develop and implement solutions; notify users of system down time.
- Maintain and order required IT parts, equipment and tools in order to support the Business Technologies Department and programs.
- Assist in ordering and maintaining inventories of supplies, materials and equipment; maintain proper rotation of storage of materials. May include contacting vendors and working with CFCC purchasing.
- Resolve computer related issues and interface with internal and external sources and suppliers.
- Recommend/Source computer hardware and software purchases.
Security:
- Maintain system security and anti-virus in accordance with college IT Services policies and procedures.
- Review Firewall logs and manage firewall to block threats.
- Maintain working knowledge of current CVE’s – CVE (mitre.org)
Must have flexibility to complete technical assignments and projects that might arise outside of normal working hours.
Participate in Business Technologies departmental meetings as required.
Stay abreast of new developments, and changes in various academic fields related to information technology; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to the degree’s teaching area.
Other Important Functions:
Perform minor repairs and adjustments on equipment; maintain general cleanliness of the laboratory.
Maintain a record of all work activities, including the repair, maintenance, testing and replacement of computer and peripheral equipment; prepare regular progress reports.
Assist in compiling and preparing a computer services handbook; document problems, solutions, programs and procedures for computer network system.
Participate on college committees and in other institutional activities and programs.
Fill in for instructors as needed by watching classes when requested.
Work with CFCC IT Services as needed.
Assist in the student recruitment for the Business Technologies Department.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Business Technologies Department Chair.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures related to the delivery of IT courses.
Experience or familiarity with Linux, Windows Server, Windows 10, unifi and pfsense, security, and Proxmox virtualization.
Online record keeping systems used by the college.
Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Ability to:
Safely work on computers and electrical equipment.
Install, test, maintain and repair microcomputers and related peripheral equipment.
Configure and troubleshoot software problems as required.
Prepare and maintain work records.
Handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize according to priority.
Learn new skills quickly and with minimal direction.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Work independently in the absence of supervision in a Sandbox environment.
Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
- making observations
- communicating with others
- reading and writing
- diagnosing problems with computer equipment- operating assigned equipment.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
- sitting for extended periods of time
- bending, stooping, kneeling or stretching during equipment installations
- disassemble and assemble computer equipment- replace and maneuver electronic computer components - operating assigned equipment.
Maintain mental capacity which allows the capability of:
- responding to questions
- making sound decisions
- demonstrating intellectual capabilities.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
