Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or closely related field from a regionally accredited college or university which includes thirty (30) quarter hours or twenty (20) semester hours of college-level accounting; and
- Five (5) years progressive leadership in an accounting function;
OR
- Master's degree and
- Two (2) years progressive leadership in an accounting function;
AND
- Demonstrated experience in the use of modern electronic, data processing and accounting applications.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED:
- Community College or Grant monitoring experience
- Colleague experience
- CPA license
Position Description
The Business Office supports the College's mission by providing our students, faculty, and customers with prompt responses to inquiries and supplying instruction and oversight of the College's general accounting functions; and, facilitate the optimal use of College financial resources in order to achieve the goals outlined in the College's strategic plan and to facilitate the budgeting, reporting and analysis of such resources.
Examples of Duties:
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Administrative Services, the Controller is responsible for insuring the efficient operation of a system of financial record-keeping for all funds receipted and disbursed by the College and Foundation. The position is responsible for the timely submission of all mandated reporting of financial information as required at the federal, state, and local levels.
The Controller will:
- supervise all accounting personnel including general ledger, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cashier;
- serve as advisor to the Vice President of Administrative Services on accounting principles and practices (GAAP) and governmental accounting standards (GASB);
- develop and implement efficient accounting procedures for the financial record-keeping of the College;
- supervise accounting staff to assure proper accounting procedures are followed and required financial reporting occurs in a timely manner for the college as well as the foundation;
- prepare annual CAFR and financial statements as required by the NC State Controller and the NC State Auditor;
- advise the President and Vice Presidents on matters of business and finance;
- assist the Vice President of Administrative Services with the preparation of revenue forecasts and the development of the annual College budget including state, county, and institutional funding;
- develop and implement a system of departmental budget reporting and control for all funding sources;
- maintain the College's chart of accounts for all funding sources;
- assist the Vice President of Administrative Services to manage fiscal resources to assure their availability when required and to maximize their benefit to the College;
- work closely with other members of the college to maintain the accreditation standards with the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools (SACS) and other program accrediting bodies;
- perform other duties as assigned by the Controller and VP of Administrative Services.
