Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements (Applicant must meet all of the minimum requirements)

1. Bachelor’s degree in any field AND at least 18 graduate semester hours in a relevant field.Teaching, Special Education, Adult Education, Educational Leadership, Curriculum & Instruction, Community College Administration, Public Administration, Non-Profit Management, or related field;
2. One year of full-time or equivalent experience working with adult learners or high school students;
3. One year of full-time or equivalent experience in Literacy, Basic Skills, Developmental Education, Special Education, Career & Technical Education, WIOA Funded Programs, or closely related organizations;
4. Experience writing or managing grants and/or managing a budget.;
5. One year of full-time or equivalent leadership experience in an educational setting.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Master’s degree;

2. Experience with Basic Skills or College & Career Readiness programs in the NC Community College System;

3. Experience teaching students with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities;

4. Experience with curriculum development;

5. One year of full-time or equivalent supervisory or management experience.

6. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language

Position Description

Job Description Summary

Contributes to the success of Transitional Studies by developing and coordinating Adult Basic Education classes and pathway programs, facilitating students’ academic progress and entry into Adult Secondary Education classes, occupational training, or employment. Hires and supervises Specialist and adjunct faculty for Adult Basic Education. Monitors classes to ensure compliance with grant requirements. Provides individual guidance for students regarding their educational plans and needs for support services. Collaborates with other Coordinators and Director to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the programs and the department.

Duties

1. Coordinates Adult Basic Education classes, including developing new courses or sites, evaluating current offerings, and scheduling, staffing, promoting, and evaluating classes. Hires, trains, supports and supervises faculty.

2. Provides guidance to students as needed regarding their educational plans and/or needs for support services. Advises students regarding class behavior expectations, readiness for testing, etc.

3. Evaluates class and program effectiveness and identifies opportunities for celebrating success and pursuing improvement.

4. Coordinates accurate and timely recordkeeping for Adult Basic Education courses, students, and faculty in collaboration with Coordinator, Data Management and Specialist, Adult Basic Education.

5. Prepares purchasing recommendations and coordinates expenditures for all instructional materials, software, and supplies for ABE classes with Director and Administrative Assistant. Maintains up-to-date budget spreadsheets tracking instructional salary costs and assists Director with preparing budget projections.

6. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and RISE statement.

7. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.
