Associates degree in Criminal Justice or related field (with additional education or experience in law enforcement); at least four years as a law enforcement officer; post-secondary teaching experience

Position Description

Under limited supervision, the BLET Coordinator coordinates, oversees, and participates in an instructional program emphasizing the law enforcement classes for students; coordinates assigned activities with other college program divisions, departments and campuses and outside agencies.  The coordinator is also responsible for working with and providing needed law enforcement training to the agencies within the college service area. This position exercises supervision over instructional staff.

  • Coordinates the instruction of classes for the law enforcement programs; prepares lesson plans; develops supplemental materials and tests; requisitions supplies and equipment as necessary; maintains accurate records of student attendance and performance
  • Prepares, administers, reviews and grades course exams for certification programs; prepares, verifies and submits applications and other paperwork for the certification of participating students
  • Develops and promotes law enforcement courses including presenting information, preparing and providing schedules and advertising; records, documents, files and verifies information necessary for planning and implementing courses
  • Prepares, maintains and updates student files; researches student progress and prepares progress reports for students, college staff and outside regulatory agencies
  • Participates in the selection and evaluation of assigned staff; works with employees to corrects deficiencies; implements discipline procedures
  • Participates in the preparation and administration of program budget; submits budget recommendations and monitors expenditures
  • Supervises and reviews overall instructional process; coordinates curriculum planning, documentation and organization with instructors; participates in the evaluation of program instructional processes
  • Schedules classrooms, facilities and equipment for classes; prepares facilities and equipment as needed; delivers and retrieves equipment; tracks and inventories equipment; maintains and repairs equipment as needed
  • Provides assistance to instructors as needed
  • Attends and participates in professional meetings, seminars and workshops; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in the field
  • Participates in the selection and evaluation of instructors; provides or coordinates training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures
