Minimum Qualifications

Associate degree in nursing; a current unencumbered Registered Nurse license and licensed to practice in North Carolina:
WORK EXPERIENCE: 

  1. The applicant is a registered nurse with an unencumbered license.
  2. The applicant is licensed to practice in North Carolina.
  3. The applicant has at least two (2) years (4000 hours) of experience as a registered nurse in the United States.
  4. The applicant has at least one (1) year (2000 hours) of RN experience in the provision of long-term care facility services in the United States demonstrated by:
    1. working in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital, OR
    2. supervising or teaching students in a long-term care facility licensed as a skilled nursing facility or a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital. 

Physical Requirements:  Must be physically able to operate a variety of types of office and medical equipment including computer, medical monitors, stethoscope, diagnostic tools, IV equipment, etc.  Must be physically able to exert up to fifty pounds of force occasionally and/or frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.  Physical demands are in excess of sedentary work; position requires walking, standing, stooping, reaching, crouching, fingering, grasping, etc. for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of approximately one hundred pounds.  Must be able to perceive attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by means of receptors in skin, particularly those of fingertips.

Data Conception:  Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar to or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or things.

Interpersonal Communication:  Requires the ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information. Includes the giving of instructions to students and staff.  Includes the receiving of information and instructions from supervisor.

Position Description

Under limited supervision, coordinates and supervises nursing instructors, and instructs students in Nurse Aide education courses both in the classroom/lab and in a clinical setting and performs related administrative and recordkeeping duties.  Is responsible for updating, and evaluating nurse aide and related instructional programs.  Reports to the Director of Healthcare Programs.

Assists new nursing instructors complete all applicable paperwork for certification by Department Health Services Regulations (DHSR) and North Carolina Board Of Nursing (NCBON) to teach Nursing Assistant and related programs. Coordinates and supervises nurse aid instructors and performs related administrative duties. Teaches/instructs students in the Nurse Aide Education courses (NA I and NA II) in the classroom/lab and in clinical setting. Fills in for instructors during their absence which includes conducting class/lab or clinical rotations as needed. 

Performs related administrative duties which include planning and implementing a clinical orientation session for students per semester; evaluating textbooks, preparing lesson plans, course syllabi, handouts, tests, etc.; developing and implementing appropriate assessment lab activities, gathering resources for class; duplicating materials and making transparencies; evaluating clinical performance; conducting critiques of students' class work; grading assignments; maintaining files; etc. Prepares and/or completes various reports and forms related to classes including yearly reports, grade reports, attendance sheets/rosters, clinical experience records as required by governing agencies DHSR and NCBON to maintain approval of NAI and NAII programs ensuring compliance with applicable policies and statutes. Serves as Coordinator for the Nurse Aide Program for the College in ECD Division.  Duties include assisting the Director of Healthcare Programs in conducting nurse aid program needs assessments ensuring that programs meet requirements of governing agencies (DHSR and NCBON).   Updates, evaluates, and revises the curriculum; develops, plans, and implements courses; Coordinates the use of facilities; procures supplies and equipment for classes and labs; assists the Director with contracts between college and clinical facilities for student clinical experiences; plans schedules for clinical rotation for students; implementing policies; providing support to instructors and staff; directing and overseeing the efficient completion of all administrative forms; evaluating the program; marketing the program, maintaining equipment and supplies, etc.  Conforms to the health requirements/screening for clinical agencies and presents a certificate of health as requested.  Coordinates and oversees the work of part-time Nurse Aide Instructor(s) in the Department. Performs various other student-related duties including recruiting students, advising students, assisting students with class registration, counseling with students, assisting students with career and study skills, providing help with job placement and contacts, writing letters of recommendation, etc. Completes various student forms such as attendance records, grade sheets, clinical experience records, health records, etc.
 

Provides records to clinical sites per policies.  Coordinates computer training per Vidant Medical Center policy and orientations per policies, as well as PCC.  Responds to phone calls, providing information and answering inquiries as appropriate.

Remains active in professional organizations and activities.  Keeps abreast of newest research and technological advances relative to nurse aide education courses by reading professional journals and attending seminars, conferences, meetings, etc.

Maintains good working relationships and communicates information within the Department and with all departments/divisions on campus. 

Receives, reviews, processes, files and/or submits a variety of documents and reports such as attendance report, grade sheets, evaluation forms, schedules, annual objectives, and various other forms, memos, and general letters of correspondence.  Maintains files of instructional and administrative materials.  Creates brochures each semester for the program, mailing, etc.  Assists with graduation programs each semester.

Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including attendance sheets, inquiries, issues, records, reports, correspondence, memos, etc.

Prepares and/or processes various records and reports including grade reports, and general  correspondence as necessary.  Refers to policy and procedure manuals, computer manuals, codes / laws / regulations, publications and reference texts, etc.

Operates, utilizes, and maintains various types of office and medical equipment including computer, calculator, medical monitors, stethoscope, calipers, diagnostic tools, IV equipment, general office and medical equipment.

Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals including immediate supervisor, co-workers, staff, and the general public.  Serves on various College committees and organizations and attends meetings as required.   Performs other duties as required.
