Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required.  A minimum of 3 years of progressive, management experience or equivalent is required. Experience dealing with the unemployed, under-employed, and/or dislocated workforce is required.  Experience in curriculum or program development or similar experience is required. A demonstrated understanding and commitment to the open door philosophy of the community colleges as well as a commitment to student learning is required. Qualified applicants must have a demonstrated competence in the application and use of MS Office.  Qualified applicants must have skills in critical analysis and problem solving, and independent decision-making ability. THIS POSITION REQUIRES FREQUENT WORK WITHIN A PRISON FACILITY and maintaining a security clearance allowing admission to prison facilities is required.



Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree preferred. Experience in a correctional education setting is preferred. A demonstrated knowledge of budget management is valued as well as the ability to assess programming options relative to budget options in order to make strategic programming decisions. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are an essential element of this position.

Position Description

General Description of the Position:

The Coordinator of Correctional Programs, under the direction of the Dean of Adult Education and the general supervision of the Vice President for Instruction will oversee all occupational extension courses, College & Career Readiness courses, and potential other non-credit programming delivered in a correctional setting in addition to third party credentialing.  Program development and implementation is an essential component of this position.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  1. Perform systematic analysis that helps to identify program and employment needs and areas for growth and improvement.
  2. Coordinate the implementation of non-credit programming in the correctional facilities in the college service area.
  3. Coordinate any assigned Occupational Extension Programming.
  4. Oversee program data entry, instructor contract documentation, scheduling, payroll, Colleague data entry, and other tasks required for operation.
  5. Collect, sort, consolidate, and file documentation to include start forms, contracts, and class change forms to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of WED paperwork.
  6. Plan, schedule and create classes and enter into Datatel in the preparation of class start packets and assist with the registration process of classes.
  7. Evaluate instruction and assist instructors in implementing effective instruction aligned with NCCCS CCR Adult Content Standards, WIOA compliance and applicable curriculum.
  8. Responsible for insuring that correctional facilities are properly billed for classes and testing.
  9. Supervise all prison program instructors and conduct periodic personnel evaluations as required by the College.
  10. Serve as the point of contact/liaison between prison and College staff.  Attend all meetings required by the College and/or correctional facility and receive all requests for programming as determined by the correctional facilities.
  11. Responsible for completing the Prison Education Program (PEP) Joint Annual Plan submitted to the NC Community College System Office and the NC Department of Public Safety each fiscal year and submitting to the Dean of Adult Education for approval.
  12. Contribute to the continuous improvement of WED by creating and implementing ways to support the continuous growth and sustainability of RCC’s WED programs.
  13. Other duties assigned.
