Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling & Guidance, Counseling Psychology, Psychology, Educational Psychology, Social Work, or related area required. 
    Two years of experience working with people with disabilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of disability laws and regulations
    Two years of experience providing academic, personal and career development counseling. 
  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
  • Effectiveness in the following College organizational competencies:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in community college or higher education setting
  • Experience reviewing medical and psychometric documentation, analyzing diagnostic test results, and interviewing students as a basis for making appropriate recommendations for academic adjustments and accommodations.

Position Description

SUMMARY:

The Coordinator, Disability Access Services supports student success by serving as a resource to DCCC students with disabilities including the coordination of accommodations and is responsible for the administration of student disability services.  This Coordinator reports to the Dean, Student Engagement and Completion and has the following responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides leadership in the planning development and implementation of the activities, programs and comprehensive services of the Disability Access Services office.
  • Provide direct service to students with disabilities to help facilitate their enrollment, progression, and completion of their educational goal.
  • Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates performance of note-takers and interpreters.
  • Maintains current knowledge of legal and professional issues in the field of disability services and assures fulfillment of appropriate standards and compliance in the delivery of services.
  • Reviews and evaluates disability documentation and recommend appropriate accommodations.
  • Arranges student accommodations such as readers, note takers, interpreters, assistive technology, etc. and communicate appropriately with faculty and staff regarding student accommodation plans.
  • Coordinates services with community resources for students and acts as a liaison between external agencies and the college to serve the student.
  • Coordinates educational presentations and workshops for the campus community on relevant disability access topics.
  • Collaborates with the DCCC Early College and area high schools to provide services as needed in students' transition to the college.
  • Maintains accurate and current records on all students served.
  • Collects data and other information to analyze needs and evaluate programs.
  • Works collaboratively with college departments/divisions to assess campus and student needs that enhance the accessibility of the college campus and its services.
  • Acts as a campus contact regarding information and issues related to serving students with disabilities.
  • Collaborates with the Director, Behavioral and Counseling Services, Academic Affairs and other college personnel to provide programming and services to students.
  • Prepares reports for administration and other stakeholders.
  • Serves on the Behavior Intervention Team, Digital Accessibility Committee and other committees as appropriate.
  • Assists with the coordination of accommodations for campus visitors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
