Position Description
Statement of Primary Purpose
The Coordinator – Facilities and Operations provides strategic and tactical leadership, coordination, and administrative oversight to integrated college-wide facilities operation and construction, campus master planning, environmental health and safety programs. This position ensures quality day-to-day operation of the College’s physical plant, including but not limited to maintenance, repair, and renovation of current facilities, oversight of capital projects and interaction with local, state and regional agencies pertaining to building and construction. Manages the Maintenance and Cleaning of the College grounds and facilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
• Coordinate and supervise all capital projects acting as the owner’s representative to include:
- New construction of buildings and facilities
- Repair and renovation projects of college facilities
- Deferred maintenance program (estimate capital needs and assist in budget development)
- Coordinate related activities, resources, equipment and information
- Prepare project proposals, timeframes, and schedules.
- Monitor and track projects’ progress and handle issues as they arise
- Use project management tools to monitor working hours, budget, plans and money spent
- Maintain a working preventive maintenance program for equipment and facilities.
• Manage the Maintenance and Cleaning of the College grounds and facilities.

- Establish appropriate maintenance, grounds keeping, and custodial requirements for the College.
• Coordinate Facility Master Planning with designers, architects and engineers and college administration
• Maintain facility files, archive blueprints, floor plans, CAD drawings and operating manuals
• Maintain building and room inventory data, space utilization data (D.A.V.E. and Datatel systems)
• Complete requisitions for purchasing and contracts related to renovations and repairs to facilities
• Maintain the SCC Strategic Energy and Water Management Plan with the goal of reducing energy consumption and related costs
• Coordinate facility-related environmental safety programs (chemical hygiene, hazard communications, blood borne pathogen, forklift safety, hearing conservation, lockout/tag out, electrical safety and other related training)
• Works with the Assistant Comptroller to manage the budget of the operations and facility development division.
• Coordinate Building Security and Access Keys/Building codes
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Emergency Services/Safety Coordinator on non-facility related safety programs for the College in conjunction with Health and Safety committee recommendations.
• Assist with the Business Continuity Plan and ensure that the plan is updated annually
• Maintain equipment inventory records and reconcile annually
• Coordinate the inventory of chemicals and disposal of hazardous wastes
• Oversee vehicle fleet management
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Education
• Bachelor’s degree or above in architecture, construction, building science, management, engineering or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university required.
• Completed OSHA 10-hour outreach training
Knowledge and Skills
• Five years of experience working in facility operations and/or construction preferred
• Computer skills: MS Office, Google, and project management tools
• Excellent ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with the public, employees and other departments in person and on the telephone
• Use initiative and sound independent judgment within scope of responsibility
• Ability to read and apply complex rules, regulations and procedures relating to construction and design contracts
• Ability to read blueprints beneficial
• Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously
• Knowledge of or ability to learn federal, state and local laws and ordinances governing construction projects
• Ability to inspect construction sites and mechanical areas
• Prior Supervisory experience preferred
Physical Demands
Ability to climb ladders and access a roof; campus walking, lifting and bending.
Licensing Requirement
Valid North Carolina driver’s license
Working Conditions and Environment
Business hours 8 am - 5 pm, Monday through Thursday, 8 am – noon Friday. This position will need flexibility in scheduling to accommodate emergencies and may require evenings, weekends, and college holidays.
