Minimum Qualifications

Work experience in data science techniques, statistical methods, predictive modeling, and forecasting; data quality control and validation; and/or institutional effectiveness is required.

Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, quantitative social science, or related field required. 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with higher education, institutional effectiveness, data recording systems (Colleague/Datatel, Banner) and/or survey management tools (Watermark, Snap, Qualtrics) is preferred.

Master's degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, quantitative social science, or related field preferred.

Position Description

The Coordinator, Institutional Effectiveness reports directly to the Executive Director, Office of Accountability and Strategic Initiatives and supports the College’s institutional effectiveness processes and continuous improvement efforts; leverages reporting and business intelligence tools to provide data analysis, research, and insights required for official college reporting, annual assessment activities, and strategic efforts that support program improvement and student success; designs, executes, and interprets complex research analysis for evaluating and improving programs, projects, and services

Essential Functions:
 

  • Coordinates institutional effectiveness activities including program and administrative unit assessments, survey administration, data analysis, and use of assessment results. 
  • Assists staff, faculty, programs, and departments with developing outcomes and selecting assessment techniques and tools that support continuous improvement.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations and reports, including assessment results and relevant data analyses, to internal and external stakeholders, using visual displays of quantitative and qualitative information. 
  • Provides data analytics models for making strategic and tactical decisions at the College while maintaining integrity of all information assets.
  • Integrates concepts and data from sources such as institutional, local, state, and federal databases to create analyses that serve the college's compliance, research and strategic efforts.
  • Oversees training, coordinating, implementing, and analyzing assessment initiatives for the College.
  • Supports evaluative activity through survey creation, management, and analysis.
  • Leads end-to-end analysis to characterize, model and forecast educational outcomes and trends, including:  project planning and research design; developing methodology; identifying data sources; data querying, cleaning and gathering; processing and validation; statistical analysis and interpretation; and visualization.
  • Participates in data governance efforts, interacting cross-functionally with a wide variety of people and teams to generate and organize methods, plans, and data constructs necessary for effective analytics.
  • Develops procedures for record-keeping, data retrieval, quality control and analysis of data; and maintains accurate records and documentation on reports and extractions that ensures high quality and accurate results within deadlines.

Marginal Functions: 
 

  • Champions data literacy and promotes a culture of data analytics as an important component in establishing a vision for decision making in the organization. 
  • Formulates research questions to address and solve complex institutional challenges. 
  • Assists employees in incorporating study results into reports and presentations.

Knowledge of:

  • Written and verbal communication techniques. 
  • Industry standard programing languages (such as Python, R, Power BI) and analytics packages (SAS, SPSS, Power BI, etc.), as well as visualization software such as Tableau. 
  • Building reports for a variety of stakeholders in a cohesive and intuitive manner.
  • Research methods and data analytics needed in higher education. 
  • Time management and organizational skills. 
  • Modern office procedures, methods, and computer equipment. 
  • English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Environmental Conditions:

The Coordinator, Institutional Effectiveness should have the ability to effectively handle a work environment and conditions which involve an office and classroom workspace and working closely with others.  

The Coordinator, Institutional Effectiveness must sustain the work environments by maintaining equipment and supplies, ensuring overall cleanliness, functionality, and conformance to OSHA standards to provide a safe work environment. 

Physical Conditions:

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining the physical condition necessary for standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; lifting and carrying moderately heavy materials; rapidly typing for extended periods of time.  

Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for making observations, reading and writing, operating assigned equipment, communicating with others, and handling varied tasks simultaneously. 

Maintain mental capacity which permits making sound decisions, answering questions, working with numbers, demonstrating intellectual capabilities, and maintaining confidentiality where appropriate.

Scheduling Conditions: 

This is a full-time, 12-month position, which requires the employee to be on campus or at an approved alternate location for at least thirty-six hours per week, Monday through Thursday, 8:00am-5:00pm, and Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm. This position generally works daytime hours, but has the potential for occasional evening or weekend hours. 

Traveling Conditions: 

Local travel between the Caldwell campus, Watauga campus, or any off-campus sites may be needed. Out-of-state travel is limited but may be required for training and conferences.
