Minimum Qualifications

1. NC Barbering license;
2. NC Barbering Instructor license;
3. Experience as a NC licensed Barber.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Two years of full-time or equivalent experience as a NC licensed Barber;
2. Two years of full-time or equivalent supervisory experience;
3. Experience teaching at a community college;
4. Proficiency in a foreign language such as Spanish, an East Slavic language, and/or American Sign Language.

Position Description

Job Description Summary

The Coordinator & Lead Instructor, Barbering is responsible for administering the Barbering Program for the college. Additionally, the Coordinator & Lead Instructor, Barbering serves as a subject-matter-expert in all matters pertaining to the NC Barbering Board and matters related to teaching individuals to pass the NC Barbering Board Licensing Exam.

Duties

1. Ensures that Barbering techniques and practices are current by keeping Barbering License and Barbering Instructor License current.
2. Ensures that the students are using the textbooks prescribed by the NC Barbering Board.
3. Ensures that all students are knowledgeable of how the Barbering program works as far as hours needed to satisfy Barbering Board requirements, equipment needed and cost of same equipment and how the NC Barbering Board Licensing Process works.
4. Manages all program operations: course outline preparation, orientation, instruction, grading, and student evaluations of all courses.
5. Ensures that students are complying with all safety procedures in the classroom and Barbering lab.
6. Monitors compliance with local, state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and audits.
7. Assures program compliance with certifying agencies’ guidelines.
8. Recruits, screens, interviews, hires, and evaluates all part-time instructors in program area.
9. Prepares program reports.
10. Ensures a classroom environment that is harassment free and welcoming to all students.
11. Establishes and maintains a positive, effective working relationship with students, staff, faculty and institutional representatives.
12. Collaborates with other areas of the college, especially the Cosmetology Program to ensure a good neighbor relationship since spaces are shared.
13. Promotes community awareness of program opportunities.
14. Coordinates the ordering of books, materials, and supplies.
15. Contributes to the College Vision, Mission, Values, and Welcoming College statement.
16. Supports workforce diversity in all its aspects.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.
