Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Training:

A minimum of five years of full-time clinical nursing experience.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a regionally accredited college or university; must earn Master of Science in Nursing in Nursing Education within three years of hire date as a condition of employment.

Current unrestricted license or multi-state license privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
 

Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) and/or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire date.
 

Meet the standards of Faculty as established by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and outlined in 21 NCAC 36.0318.

Master of Science in Nursing in Nursing Education.

Position Description

Develop simulation curricula to support concept-based nursing programs and course outcomes.
 

Conduct debriefing within scope of knowledge or assist content expert with debriefing.
 

Coordinate and supervise the general operation of the nursing simulation labs to provide a wide variety of patient simulation experiences.
 

Provide and/or facilitate quality experiences in simulation lab to meet program needs.
 

Oversee the operation and maintenance of high, mid, and low fidelity simulation equipment, audio-visual equipment, learning center software and computer equipment.
 

Collaborate with nursing faculty and simulation technologists to design, develop, set-up, and implement simulated learning scenarios and equipment for all nursing courses.
 

Troubleshoot and revise problematic nursing simulation lab assignments as requested by instructors.
 

Provide recommendations for equipment and supply purchases, anticipating future changes in technology.
 

Coordinate the utilization of new equipment, technology, and other materials for faculty, staff, and students.
 

Oversee scheduling, set up, and take down of simulation rooms and equipment.
 

Ensure safety for all users.
 

Coach, develop, mentor, and evaluate Simulation Center personnel.
 

Maintain simulation labs and facilitate learning to meet the College, accreditation standards, and regulatory guidelines, goals, and objectives.
 

Plan, organize, and facilitate learning strategies to communicate subject matter for maximization of student learning.
 

Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to improve student retention, meet diverse student needs, and make referrals for students needing additional assistance.
 

Recommend to the Department Chair or Program Coordinator improvements to the instructional program including, but not limited to curriculum, textbooks, instructional techniques, modes of delivery, equipment, hardware, software, and facilities.
 

Maintain currency and incorporate new instructional techniques and technologies into the simulation labs.
 

Revise and update existing simulation and laboratory components for relevancy and currency consistent with the role and mission of the College.
 

Maintain face-to-face and/or virtual classroom environments conducive to student learning, engagement, and retention.
 

Demonstrate and explain to students how to locate and use reference materials available via electronic means through online databases, as appropriate.
 

Organize instructional activities and subject matter to acquaint all students with course requirements including learning outcomes and methods of measurement and evaluation.
 

Maintain accurate scholastic and membership records of student participation in simulation labs and prepare and submit reports as required.
 

Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to maximize student learning.
 

Maintain currency in healthcare technology, nursing, and simulation pedagogy through involvement in professional organizations and attending or facilitating professional meetings, conferences, or workshops, on-campus and off-campus.
 

Conduct and report periodic inspections of 1) classrooms, labs, and offices for health and safety issues, 2) ensure compliance with lockout/tag-out procedures for all machinery or equipment used in classrooms, labs or offices, and 3) all hazardous materials and compliance with FTCC procedures for labeling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
 

Actively engage in the development and implementation of program review, assessment, strategic planning, curriculum/program improvement, recruitment, and retention efforts.
 

Adhere to current requirements and submit documentation, as needed, for licensure, certification, registration, health requirements, and/or other validation requirements, as appropriate.
 

Establish and maintain regular contact with advisees to provide the advice and encouragement to keep the students focused on their educational goals.
 

Attend and participate in all scheduled faculty, committee, and college-wide meetings, including graduation ceremonies.
 

Sponsor student organizations, as appropriate and assigned, and participate in student-based activities.
 

Foster and sustain collegial relationships with colleagues, College representatives, the local community, and professional organizations.
 

Perform other duties that may include teaching, clinical instruction, community service, and substitute teaching for other nursing instructors as assigned.
 

Knowledge of:

Curriculum, subject matter, and equipment/technology related to nursing simulation.
 

Methods and techniques of curriculum development and evaluation.
 

Specific knowledge of accreditations and licensure as may be required by the assigned area of responsibility.
 

Electronic course delivery methods and instructional techniques.
