Minimum Qualifications

An Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution in general administration, business, management, safety, and health, or a closely related field is required. The candidate needs to be familiar with and experienced in implementing the 1910 CFR OSHA Standards; writing or developing safety and health programs; filing workers’ compensation claims, recordkeeping, and incident investigations; hazard communication standards and use of Safety Data Sheets; safety and health training; conducting safety audits; developing agendas and conducting meetings. Must be capable of extensive walking or standing, climbing stairs, climbing occasional ladders, moving weights up to 25 pounds and able to lift overhead, working as needed outside in all weather conditions, and working extended hours if required in an emergency

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in similar areas is preferred. Strong background in occupational safety initiatives for a mid-size organization; facilities management and project management experience are preferred. Five years of experience at the senior managerial level is preferred. A National Career Readiness Certificate and bilingual are preferred.

Position Description

The Occupational Safety & Health Initiatives Coordinator will service various occupational health and safety initiatives for all facilities of Wayne Community College. Duties include updating OSH-related college procedures and plans as needed and serving as the primary point of contact for workers’ compensation training, claims reporting, and investigations. Maintain all safety and health-related records. Conducting safety audits, chairing the safety committee, coordinating safety and health abatement issues with facilities management; working with each Dean, Department Chair, Supervisor, or Coordinator on Campus to implement the College safety and health programs. Conduct safety and health training as required for employees. Assist with the Pandemic Response Task Force if needed to coordinate conditions and needs of all employees regarding remaining or returning to campus safely. Collaborate with Human Resources as necessary to coordinate the Campus employee nurse schedule, facility needs, and equipment. Work under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Human Resources, Marketing, Safety, and Compliance to cover these duties, and all other duties for the College.
