Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a nationally accredited institution required.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Minimum of Five years’ experience with Workforce Development initiatives, Grant Funding, Continuing Education, or Adult Education in a post-secondary institution required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), electronic calendaring, data entry, and have accurate record-keeping skills.
  • Must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills with a high degree of detail orientation and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

  • Generally, works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Some walking, standing, and bending required, and the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 25 pounds. 
  • Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
  • In addition to regular office hours, position sometimes requires scheduling outside of regular office hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree from a nationally accredited institution preferred.
  • Experience in Human Resources Development (HRD), Truck Driver Training (CDL), Prison Education, and Workforce Development course offerings preferred.  
  • Experience with the Colleague/Datatel system preferred.

Position Description

SUMMARY

The Coordinator of Workforce Development is primarily responsible for coordinating, planning, implementing, and marketing courses in areas of Workforce Development, Human Resources Development, Prison Education (PEP), and Continuing Education, as well as the creation of new programs in both non-credit and credit offerings of the College.   The Coordinator will be responsible for suggesting and overseeing the development of potential offerings based on a solid understanding of course creation processes, labor market trends, employer needs, and FTE generating courses within Gaston and Lincoln counties. The Coordinator is responsible for managing daily operations carried out by the Workforce Development team.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. Under the direction of the Director of Workforce Development and in collaboration with department Coordinator/Specialist(s), the incumbent will be responsible for the coordination and maintenance of programs/courses to include but not limited to, Human Resources Development (HRD), Truck Driving (CDL), Prison Education Training, Trade Skills, Cybersecurity, Business and/or Career Licensing,  Certification/Recertification, Computer Technology, and Online/Ed2go offerings; assist in developing curriculum and instructional materials as needed.
  2. Oversee and prepare all documentation required for Gaston College and NC Community College System compliance management and efficient administration of all courses and corresponding budgets as requested. 
  3. Promote Workforce Development courses internally and externally by developing strong relationships, serving on committees and councils, marketing to community events and civic organizations; Assist in the creation, development and distribution of promotional materials; Participate in job fairs, professional conferences, workshops, career days, employee orientations, and regional and statewide meetings as assigned.
  4. Collaborate with Coordinator/Specialist(s) of Workforce Development to establish and maintain positive relationships between Gaston College and relevant business, governmental, and community initiatives. Evaluate, develop, and modify classes as needed to meet the needs of our service area. Monitor, and maintain interagency partnerships within the community; serve on external agency planning committees, boards and councils as assigned.
  5. Audit courses and assure compliance as required by the EWD Internal Audit Plan.
  6. Monitor and enforce all policies of the Workforce Development program, Gaston College, and agencies and businesses served as they relate to the programs.
  7. Responsible for the maintenance of appropriate records documenting student achievement and progress during and after the classes; generate reports, monitor data, and send electronic files to state offices as needed. Monitor and interpret reports as they impact the performance of the programs.
  8. Coordinate, develop, and provide appropriate training and ongoing staff development for instructors consistent with research findings and practices in the field of adult education and workforce development.
  9. Assist in departmental functions such as student registration instructions, student information/orientation sessions, instructor orientation sessions, and onboarding, as needed.
  10. Monitor program budget(s), payroll, and expenditures.
  11. Maintain a high standard of professional and ethical practice in representing the College. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and/or confidential information. Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the field or discipline with continued adherence to professional accountability. Provide a high level of service to customers by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships and partnerships. Accept responsibility for managing situations and problems. 
  12. Utilize independent judgment in problem solving of complex issues. Work cooperatively with team members and colleagues, contributing positively and constructively to the achievement of team and College objectives. Adhere to the College’s policies, procedures, and other established guidelines. 
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Workforce Development.
