  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • More than three years of experience in a professional office environment.
  • At least one year experience working directly with clients or in a customer service training environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred educational background in area of Business, Business Management, or related field.

This position, housed at COA - Dare, will serve as the point of contact to enhance brand recognition for training specific to Workforce Development and Continuing Education throughout the service area internally and externally. 

The Coordinator, Workforce Development and Career Readiness (WDCR) will be responsible for identifying the needs of new and existing business, customizing and designing training opportunities to support growth and economic development in the community, creating and developing course schedules/associate paperwork and maintaining a resource and information center. This position will also oversee the course development and scheduling of all programs related to Business, Industry and Applied Technologies.

The Coordinator, WDCR receives supervision from the Dean, Workforce Development, Public Services and Career Readiness.

 

 Examples of Duties:

  • Promote the partnership with local Chambers of Commerce and other resource providers.
  • Serve as liaison, representing the Deans with organizations throughout the seven-county service area.
  • Assist Campus Dean and Dean of Workforce Development, Public Relations and Career Readiness (WDPRCR), as well as other college administrators in business and industry visits, primarily in Dare county and other counties as needed.
  • Assist Campus Dean and Dean, WDPRCR in coordination of regional economic and workforce development initiatives and programs for the region; coordinate and collaborate activities within the seven-county region of northeastern North Carolina.
  • Responsibilities include data entry as related to the Workforce Development and Continuing Education (WDCE) Division guidelines as well as general office duties and administrative tasks in support of the WDCE Division.
  • Serve as point of contact at COA - Dare for annual schedule development of Personal Enrichment Continuing Education courses offered as extension of each curriculum area, and assist for other campuses as needed.
  • Foster strong working relationships with COA's Career and Technical Education Deans and Instructors.
  • Work directly with Academic Deans to facilitate marketing materials for short-term course offerings.
  • Promote and market college programs to local industries and work with industries to plan and maintain customized training programs.
  • Plan, schedule and monitor to ensure local industry needs are met.
  • Identify, supervise and evaluate instructors, secure training facilities, equipment and materials and coordinate registration process.
  • Participate in workforce development partnership meetings to stay informed on community updates and to foster new partnerships.
  • Stay abreast of new and trending training needs, certifications and quality requirements through professional development, reading and research.
  • Coordinate the Continuing Education Scholarships program.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism as a representative of the college.
  • Attend and participate in professional meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of professional development and small business.
  • Develop new marketing initiatives to promote small business and maintain a database for training opportunities; submit instructors' contract to the Business Office after approval.
  • Other duties as assigned.
