Minimum Qualifications

  • Registered nurse (RN) with a current, unencumbered North Carolina RN license;
  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or related field;
  • Two years work experience as a registered nurse (4000 hours); and  
  • One year RN experience (2000 hours) in long-term care facility (facility must be licensed as a skilled nursing facility or be a skilled nursing facility which is a distinct part of a hospital), or supervise in a long-term care facility, or teach students in a long-term care facility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in nursing or related field preferred.
  • Two years teaching experience

Position Description

This faculty position is responsible for coordination and instruction of the Nurse Aide I, II, and Review courses.  The duties include assurance of compliance with standards as set forth by the North Carolina Division of Facility Services (DFS) and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.   In addition, this position is responsible for teaching a minimum of six hours per week, facilitating lab and clinical sites, maintaining necessary records, and evaluating clinical activities.   This position is designated as “Program Director” through DFS and reports directly to the Director of Health and Public Services Workforce Development.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Teach program material via seated and online classes as required by the schedule.
  • Learn new material to keep up with changing technology.
  • Facilitate regular and substantive interaction via proactive communication with students.
  • Participate in new student recruitment.
  • Ensure classrooms, labs, and lab equipment are in good repair and maintain a safe environment for students and employees.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in your area of expertise.
  • Represent with enthusiasm the program within the College and in the community as the primary point of contact.
  • Provide supervision to other faculty teaching within the program.
  • Coordinate advisory boards, program updates, offerings, and scheduling of courses.

DUTIES:

  • Develop syllabi for and instruct courses for the Nurse Aide Program.
  • Coordinate the review, revision and accreditation process as needed for program standards.
  • Create, administer, grade and maintain records for exams, projects, activities and reports for evaluation of students in each course.
  • Determine budget for equipment, supplies and travel and recommend needed purchases.
  • Recruit and supervise all part-time faculty serving nurse aide programs.
  • Maintain a relationship with community clinical facilities and assist in the training needs of the community relevant to this area.
  • Participate in professional organizations, attend conferences and workshops as appropriate and maintain professional contacts with instructors in similar instructional areas on other campuses.
  • Attend meetings and updates regarding nurse aide programs and serve as a member of the North Carolina Association of Nursing Instructors.
  • Counsel students on an as-needed basis in relation to academic progress.
  • Participate in the evaluation and acquisition of instructional materials, audio-visual aids, support and equipment needs.
  • Serve on a variety of campus committees and participate in campus activities.
  • Maintain daily office hours as part of a 39-hour week workload.
  • Establish course offerings and scheduling for courses.  Participate in registration and pre-registration activities.
  • Coordinate nurse aide testing with state-approved testing company.
  • Monitor progress of programs.
  • Perform other related duties relevant to the work described herein.
