Minimum Qualifications

meet qualifications for a part-time instructor as defined by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Examiners
have an understanding of and a commitment to community college education and the concept of a learning centered, open-admissions college
have a commitment to the academic success of all students
be able to relate to students, faculty and staff in a congenial and professional manner
demonstrated knowledge of instructional systems design and production
have the educational and/or training background to ensure effective teaching in the appropriate subject areas
demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using a variety of instructional media and materials
effectively evaluate performance using summative and formative instruments
maintenance of a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Cosmetologist (or Manicure/Nail Technologist or Esthetician per posting) and a Cosmetology Instructor (or Manicuring Nail Instructor per posting) in North Carolina
two years of teaching experience preferred
prefer experience in Pivot Point or Milady curriculum
prefer experience with learning management system (Blackboard, Open LMS, or Moodle)

Position Description

Responsible to the Cosmetology Dean for the effective teaching of both theory and clinic.

Essential Duties:
teach assigned courses as assigned by the Cosmetology Dean
participate in maintenance of program approval by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Examiners
attend scheduled or called Cosmetology faculty meetings
submit reports on time
assist in design, implementation and evaluation of the Cosmetology curriculum and assigned courses
teach, supervise, and evaluate learning experiences in assigned courses
assist with the development of all Cosmetology Program policies
prepare thoroughly for classroom and clinic instruction
maintain competency in theoretical knowledge and skills in areas of instruction
maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues
evaluate student learning in terms of course objectives
maintain required documentation of student progress
ensure infection control procedures are followed
balance daily reports and deposits
participate in inventory control and monitoring equipment
confer with students regarding academic progress and refer to Program Coordinator/Dean
complete other duties as assigned

Related Responsibilities:

work with the Cosmetology Dean and other faculty to plan, implement and evaluate the program of learning as required by the College and North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Examiners
report to the Cosmetology Dean

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
