Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current North Carolina Cosmetology Instructor License
- Current North Carolina Cosmetologist License
- Ability to teach and demonstrate Natural Hair Care Specialist theoretical and practical skills
- Minimum of an Associate Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching adult learners the skills of Cosmetology or Natural Hair Care Specialist
- Preferably post-secondary teaching experience in a community college environment.
- Minimum of five (5) years' continuous experience working in a salon environment as a Cosmetologist
Preferred Qualifications
Ability to speak Spanish preferred.
Position Description
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
- Assume responsibility for teaching assignments as recommended by the department chair and approved by the dean.
- Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful.
- Keep abreast of current technology; incorporate latest instructional technologies and interactive learning technologies in course delivery.
- Adhere to departmental course guidelines and ensure that content covers SACSCOC approved competencies.
- Develop and maintain student learning outcomes for each instructional area.
- Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor in supervision of students as applicable, and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient laboratory and/or clinical environment.
- Assume responsibility for maintaining all required college records, including attendance and grade reports, roll books, etc.
- Evaluate student performance using methods appropriate to the course.
- Maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, and outlines for courses of instruction and develop new courses of study as necessary.
- Make recommendations to department chairs and deans for selection of supplies, equipment, equipment repairs, textbooks for courses and the scheduling of classroom and laboratory facilities.
- Participate in departmental activities relative to revising and updating the program(s) in the area of expertise.
- Assist with development of new programs in the area of expertise.
- Provide assistance to advisees.
- Participate in department and college-wide advising activities.
- Learn and maintain proficiency with program requirements of assigned advisees.
- Use the college’s student information system and college approved retention software to assist and retain students and advisees.
- Follow up on all assigned advisees.
- Attend training sessions relative to advising.
- Assist in program recruitment and monitor student retention.
- Maintain current licensure, certification, or other professional credentials required for the position.
- Participate in a minimum of 10 hours of professional development activities in an academic year.
- Attend all required department and college-wide meetings.
- Serve on committees as required.
- Participate in college-wide activities.
- Assist in planning and conducting advisory committee meetings.
- Provide quality customer service to students, faculty and staff.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Organizes program of practical and technical instruction for distance learning and in-person learning, including demonstrations of skills required in cosmetology professions, and lectures on theory, techniques, and terminology; prepares outline of instructional programs and studies and assembles materials to be presented.
- Knowledge of the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Examiner curriculum[s], rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of Milady Standard Cosmetology curriculum.
- Maintains licensure /certifications and through professional development activities stays well-informed of advancements and changes within the field of Cosmetology.
- Instructs students in subject areas, i.e., use, maintenance, and the safe operation of tools and equipment.
- Instructs students in the significance of accuracy, sanitation, efficiency, resourcefulness and good work habits if obtaining employment or entrepreneurship as licensed cosmetologists.
- Assigns lesson to students and corrects homework; administers tests to evaluate achievement of students in technical knowledge and practical skills; records results.
- Keeps records of daily attendance and student progress.
- Prepares and submits instructional records, reports, and grades established by institutional policy.
- Prepares and submits instructional records, hour reports, and evaluations established by the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Examiners.
- Strong computer skills and commitment to the use of technology in instruction.
- Knowledge and experience the College’s Online Learning System (Open LMS).
- Presents subject matter to students, utilizing a variety of methods and techniques, such as lectures, discussions, or demonstrations; ensures use of classroom time is organized and that instruction and clean-up can be accomplished within the allotted time.
Enforces classroom protocols, rules and regulations; maintains classroom discipline; utilizes effective classroom management techniques
