Position Description

Since quality instruction is the primary function of the college, it is the principal responsibility of each Instructor to effectively and efficiently stimulate learning in every course. The purpose of this position is to provide a comprehensive, educational instructional program committed to quality teaching and successful student achievement. This course provides proper technique, safety, and detail which are essential skills of trades professionals. Format for the course will include classroom instruction and individualized demonstrations of skills utilized in the field.  

Essential Duties:

  • Provides instruction that fulfills the requirements of the NC State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners and the North Carolina Community College System for Cosmetology courses
  • Demonstrates pivot point cosmetic art techniques in a simulated salon environment, that will enable students to develop manipulative skills and knowledge needed to achieve licensure
  • Monitors inventory of supplies; maintains and teaches safety and sanitation measures to meet North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners requirements
  • Completes and maintains accurate student grades, attendance and performance records
  • Utilizes appropriate software and maintains accurate gradebook
  • Update, communicate and follow course syllabus content in accordance with directions provided and administrative guidance
  • Establishes positive rapport and effective communication with cosmetology director, faculty and staff, clients, peers and students
  • Follows the appropriate chain of supervision, while demonstrating professionalism at all times
  • Fulfill the duties of clinical or lab instructor in supervision of students as applicable
  • Evaluate student performance using cosmetology rubrics
  • Prepare lesson plans and activities; prepare and oversea student projects and salon

Knowledge of:

  • Classroom instructional techniques and proce­dures.
  • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
  • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
  • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regu­lations, as appropriate.

Ability to:

  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
  • Create effective instruction for delivery in both online and physical classrooms while maintaining compliance with ADA standards.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, proce­dures, laws, and regulations.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

The successful candidate must begin work on September 12, 2022. Salary is dependent upon qualifications, experience, and labor market.
