Blue Ridge Community College is currently accepting applications for a Course Designer-Networking for Industry. The primary purpose of this position is to design and develop instructional materials in an online format with hands-on lab activities for the Networking for Industry course. The course objectives include, but are
not limited to, understanding the fundamentals of packet-switched network design, configuring a basic local area network to allow computers and industry equipment (e.g., Siemens PLC’s, Fanuc, and ABB Robots) to communicate, and troubleshooting common network connectivity issues.

Minimum Qualifications
Education
An Associate’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field or a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Engineering Technology or related field (preferred)

Experience

  • Documented practical (hands-on) industry experience and strong knowledge of Internet Protocol, network firewalls, networking industrial equipment (robots, PLC’s. etc.), and related network technologies
  • The ability to use Siemens TIA portal or similar industry equipment preferred
  • Previous online teaching is preferred
  • Previous experience using a Learning Management Software (LMS) such as Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc., preferred
  • All applicants must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a workplace setting OR demonstrated instructional/teaching environment

Knowledge and Skills
The selected candidate will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or Office 365 or similar products, database systems, Learning Management Systems (LMS), college email, Google calendar, Google drive and documents, college website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

Physical Demands
The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
