Minimum Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or a closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours in criminal justice from a regionally accredited college/university, or related field is required.  Knowledge of the N.C. Department of Justice – Criminal Justice Training & Standards and the N.C. Sheriff’s Training & Standards Commission is required.  Four years of relevant field experience in criminal justice (law enforcement, crime scene processing [forensic science], corrections, probation/parole, homeland security, etc.) and three years of teaching/training experience in criminal justice topics in any of the following formats: teaching courses, training sessions, conducting professional development workshops, and/or other continuing education seminars are required.  A valid North Carolina driver’s license is required.  

Preferred Qualifications

Teaching/training experience in a post-secondary institution is preferred.  Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes and with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems are preferred.  Bilingual is preferred.

Position Description

The successful candidate will be asked to provide instruction in the Criminal Justice Technology (CJC) and CJC-Forensic Science curriculum providing students with a foundation of technical and professional knowledge needed for emergency services delivery in local and state government agencies.  Instruction involves both management and technical aspects of law enforcement, corrections, forensics, and the judicial system.

Teaching responsibilities includes instruction in classroom and laboratory settings to introduce the student to various aspects of criminal justice, corrections, and forensics as it relates to criminalistics and crime scene processing.  Emphasis is placed on the technical and administrative skills such as investigative principles, corrections, court procedures, law enforcement operations, and critical incidents. The instructor will prepare and teach the Criminal Justice courses in accordance with the requirements of the college. This position reports directly to the Dean for Public Safety.

Additional duties include: Recruiting, advising students, job placement, participation in college/departmental meetings and committees, representation in the local and criminal justice agencies, coordinate all Criminal Justice & Forensic Science Technology program classes, assist in departmental operations and planning, and other duties as assigned.
