Minimum Qualifications

Certification of instructors by the North Carolina Community College System or Mitchell Community College is not required; however, appropriate academic credentials and experience are required as determined by the nature of the instructional position according to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) criteria.

Preferred Qualifications

  • demonstrated subject matter training and education with the breadth and depth needed to insure effective teaching in the appropriate subject field or fields;
  • demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively;
  • demonstrated ability to relate to students, faculty, and staff in a courteous, professional manner;
  • demonstrated understanding of and commitment to open-access community college philosophy, teamwork, and diversity;
  • demonstrated ability to plan and organize courses; use a variety of teaching and learning strategies to ensure student success; utilize effective classroom management skills; and employ effective and appropriate evaluations of student performance;
  • possess a working knowledge of campus services for appropriate referral; and a demonstrated ability to use instructional technology effectively;
  • have demonstrated experience with hybrid/online instructional delivery formats (preferred)
  • have demonstrated experience with the Moodle learning platform
  • associate's degree in culinary arts is required
  • hold one or more certifications:  CCC, CCE, CEC, CEPC, ServSafe
  • experience teaching in a community college setting is preferred

Position Description

Position Summary
An adjunct instructor is responsible for effectively teaching the courses assigned while under the supervision of the appropriate division director and area coordinator.  Each instructor is responsible for the related duties of the position required to meet the instructional objectives of the College.

  • be thoroughly prepared for each lecture, lab, clinical, or shop time;
  • be available to students outside of class time through e-mail, telephone, and individual meetings as needed;
  • attend any required faculty, division, or departmental meetings. Such meetings are optional or by invitation for most part-time instructors;
  • accurately complete and submit all required reports and student records by stated deadlines and return all College materials and grade books at the end of each semester;
  • comply with College policies and procedures as defined in the Policy Manual.
