  • Specialized training or course from a technical school that is relevant to position.
  • Associates degree and/or technical certifications relevant to the position are highly preferred.
  • Experience managing large groups that cover multiple buildings/locations.

Position Description

DEFINITION:
Coordinate all aspects of custodial operations for your assigned shift and location. Assist in leading, reviewing, and evaluating the activities and operations of custodial services including planning and developing service levels and grounds maintenance. Coordinate assigned activities with other departments, divisions and outside agencies to ensure a comfortable environment to all CFCC constituents that is conducive to working and learning.  Supervise assigned staff to include responsibility for managing, staffing, coaching, discipline, scheduling, timekeeping, and other related personnel duties. Participates in completing related work activities in the absence of staff and provides responsible administrative support to the Operations Manager of Custodial Services. Responsible for the overall success and productivity of the assigned team.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives general supervision from the Operations Manager of Custodial Services
  • Exercises direct supervision over assigned custodial staff

 

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
Essential Functions:

  • Supervise assigned custodial staff in accordance with all college policies and applicable laws
  • Assist in developing, planning, implementing and administering goals and objectives as well as policies and procedures related to custodial services, facilities, and related activities of the College. 
    • Assist with the implementation of new or modified programs, policies and procedures that create /improve efficiencies and cost effectiveness.
  • Organize and ensure proper storage of MSDS sheets
  • Assigns work activities, projects and programs; monitors work flow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures to achieve desired goals.
  • Assists with development and administration of the custodial budget as assigned; participates in planning needed funds for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitors expenditures and adheres to established budget.  
  • Completes necessary paperwork for the hiring of employees in conjunction with HR and Payroll.
  • Participates in interviewing, hiring, and training employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; rewards and participates in the corrective action process for employees or makes such recommendations to the appropriate manager; addresses employee complaints and resolves problems. 
  • Completes annual job performance evaluations for assigned staff.
  • Retrieves, reviews and tracks timesheets, reviews and approves leave requests, completes incident reports for assigned full and part-time custodial employees.
  • Monitors and reports on inventory control.
  • Issues, maintains inventory of, and estimates project costs of needed custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Schedules custodial staff to perform: sweeping, scrubbing, vacuuming and mopping, dusting and polishing; window cleaning; carpet restoration and extraction cleaning; resilient tile cleaning, restoration, and waxing; furniture and upholstery cleaning; restroom cleaning and restoration; disposal of trash; seasonal deep cleaning and restoration of all buildings, and other cleaning activities as assigned.
  • Monitors to ensure that all custodial equipment is used, maintained, and working as specified; reports needs for new equipment and/or repairs to senior staff; assists Director on maintaining adequate level of supplies; works with vendors seeking out new or more efficient custodial methods, tools, supplies, etc.
  • Proactively monitors the CFCC buildings to ensure pristine state of operation and cleanliness.
  • Serves as the Custodial point of contact and liaison with college staff and the public for campus events. Works with leadership stakeholders in the scheduling, direction, supervision, and evaluation of campus and public events.
  • Assists with supervision of daily operations of Custodial Services: work order generation. Works under established policies and procedures that addresses daily operational and long-term goals for the department.
  • Suggests and implements changes in work practices for better efficiency and quality. Uses information and job knowledge to make positive changes, becomes more efficient, improves quality of service, maintains safety, and motivates workers to achieve consistently high standards
  • Responds to questions, resolves problems, and provides technical and other assistance to staff completing assigned work.
  • Provides Operations Manager with information necessary for purchase requisitions. Maintains, research and submits information regarding custodial operations budgets as requested.
  • Ensures compliance with established safety and maintenance standards and housekeeping practices. Assists with the identification of and completion of safety training.
  • Maintains office files (including limited informational “working” files on part-time staff) and filing systems. Assists with the completion and maintenance of reports related to work activities and staffing. Assists with audits using developed forms. Gives written reports to leadership in regards to custodial activities and updates in a schedule as requested.

 
Other Important Functions:

  • Participates on committees as requested.
  • Participates in appropriate professional development to stay abreast of relevant management topics, new trends and innovations in the field; attends professional conferences and workshops.
  • Works with Human Resources to investigate complaints and implements corrective actions as necessary to resolve complaints.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices, methods, equipment and techniques of maintenance and cleaning
  • Organizational and management practices as applied to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs
  • Principles and practices of organization, administration and personnel management.
  • Use and maintenance of a variety of industrial cleaning equipment
  • Proper and safe use and storage of cleaning compounds
  • OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard as it relates of SDSs
  • Hazards and safety precautions related to general maintenance and custodial activities
  • Budget development and management
  • Work order system or CMMS
  • Principles and practices of inventory control
  • Principles of supervision, training, and employee performance evaluations
  • Principles of recordkeeping
  • Modern computer systems and office productivity tools
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and Outlook
  • Applicable fire and safety rules and regulations
