SALARY:$24,000.00 - $26,000.00 AnnuallyDIVISION:AdministrationDEPARTMENT:FacilitiesOPENING DATE:09/02/20CLOSING DATE:09/16/20 05:00 PMOCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Custodian performs routine semi-skilled custodial services for College facilities following established procedures, guidelines and directives in the cleaning and care of buildings, classrooms, offices, restrooms and associated areas, their furnishings and equipment using manual tools and electrically powered equipment. The Custodian also moves furniture and equipment for cleaning or for special events, which may require carrying and erecting tables, chairs, stages, podiums and similar items indoors and out-of-doors. The work performed by a Custodian is guided by a daily schedule and general assignments, reviewed through inspections and frequent consultation with the Custodial Supervisor.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cleans all areas as assigned including classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, halls, stairwells, break rooms, etc.
  • Sanitizes restrooms in assigned areas, replenishing soap, paper supplies and sanitary boxes as necessary and disposing of hazardous material or body fluids properly by wearing appropriate safety items such as goggles, gloves or other appropriate protective clothing
  • Sweeps, mops, vacuums and dust mops assigned areas as needed including external porches entrance ways and stairwells
  • Dusts and polishes furniture; cleans chalkboards, whiteboards, walls, woodwork and light fixtures
  • Cleans windows, mirrors and door glass in assigned areas
  • Keeps utility and storage rooms in clean and orderly condition
  • Empties wastebaskets; transports trash and waste to disposal areas
  • Assists in preparing the campus for special events as needed
  • Reports items in need of repair or replacement and notifies supervisor of orders needed to ensure an adequate supply of cleaning materials are available
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals

     

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent.

Six (6) month's professional experience in custodial work.

Preferred:
Experience in an institutional setting.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Knowledge

  • Standard housekeeping methods, practices, techniques and procedures
  • Proper use of cleaning materials, equipment and chemical agents
  • Understanding of content and location of safety data sheets for custodial supplies and cleaning agents
  • Safety practices applicable to work performed
  • Types and uses of personal protective equipment

Skills

  • Determining the kind of equipment needed to do a job
  • Determining the appropriate type of personal protective equipment required for assigned tasks
  • Recognizing safety hazards in the work environment to prevent injury to self and building occupants
     

Abilities

  • Follow oral and written instructions; read the English language sufficiently to understand written work orders and instructions as well as directions for the proper mixture, use and disposal/storage of cleaners and similar products used in housekeeping
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
