Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or the equivalent.
- Two years of custodial experience.

FLSA: Maintenance, non-exempt
The Full-Time Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining multiple campus buildings and performing other custodial and housekeeping duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The Custodian receives supervision from the Senior Custodian.
Examples of Duties:
Essential Duties:
- Perform general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
- Maintain the floors in college buildings by mopping with detergent solutions, stripping, buffing and waxing using electrical-powered machinery.
- Move furniture as needed for cleaning of floors.
- Empty trash cans and remove trash from buildings.
- Clean water fountains.
- Clean all whiteboards.
- Wash building walls and windows.
- Open and close campus buildings as required.
- Fill dispensers.
Other Important Duties:
- Check meeting rooms and classrooms, clean as needed.
- Move furniture to access floors for stripping and waxing and to set up chairs and tables for special events.
- Work with a team of custodians to maintain floors in classrooms and common areas.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of:
- Principles and procedures of building cleaning and housekeeping.
- Safe operating procedures for custodial equipment (i.e. buffers, vacuums, extractors, carpet shampooer, etc.).
- Safe use of chemicals in cleaning and sanitizing.
Ability to:
- Identify areas requiring additional attention by housekeeping and provide the necessary attention with initiative.
- Independently perform the most difficult custodial maintenance duties.
- Operate a variety of building maintenance equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Work with a team of custodians to complete special projects.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:
- Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods of time;
- Operating assigned equipment (i.e., buffers, floor stripping machine, etc.)
- Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
- Making observations;
- Reading and writing
- Operating assigned equipment
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part of job.
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions.
- Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
