Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must be willing to assist with events that may include evenings and weekends.
- Must be a team player, dependable, self-motivated and able to perform duties assigned without direct supervision
- Ability to speak effectively and demonstrate customer service skills with customers, students, faculty, and co-workers.
- Ability to multi-task by doing more than one thing at the same time or switching attention between different activities
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities at once by focusing on one task while keeping track of others.
- Plan your day-to-day activities and account for unexpected tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in general maintenance or custodial work.
Position Description
Responsible for the maintenance and housekeeping duties of the Walker Center and Watson Stage, including but not limited to floors, restrooms, and furniture. Assists or handles general repairs including building maintenance and repairs of facilities. Performs preventive maintenance tasks on equipment, grounds, and facilities. Ensure that all facilities are clean and set up for each scheduled event.
The position reports directly to the Director of the Walker Center.
Job Duties
- Responsible for maintaining the Walker Center and Watson Stage in an exemplary condition of cleanliness and neatness.
- Set up and break down for special events and meetings
- Responsible for maintenance and storage of all tables, chairs, carts, equipment, etc.
- Report repair needs to the Director in a timely manner to ensure all equipment is working.
- Perform general, routine custodial duties including dusting, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
- Identify areas requiring additional attention by housekeeping and provide the necessary attention with initiative.
- Work with the Director and WCC Hospitality staff to set up each function as per the contract.
- Build and retain a base of part-time staff to call on for maintenance help at functions.
- Responsible for training staff to do job functions in a safe and efficient manner.
- Schedule and manage part-time employees to work in maintaining facilities.
- Work directly with customers during functions to ensure they are pleased with the building and support equipment.
- Collaborate with the Chef and Food Technicians for delivery and event setup as needed.
- Assist Technical Specialist with equipment and technical setup as needed.
- Serve on the MerleFest Site team and attend and participate in monthly planning meetings.
- Manage all maintenance and site clean-up processes during MerleFest. Also responsible for set-up and take-down of specific supplies and equipment associated with the festival.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director of Walker Center.
