Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

In support of the overall Learning College, it is the responsibility of the Dean to supervise and administer assignments within the department; to administer all appropriate personnel and institutional policies; to evaluate curriculum and provide leadership in changes, expansions, and deletions of same and to encourage and evaluate professional growth of instructors within the department.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Faculty – Full-time and part-time
    1. Screen for employment, supervise, annually evaluate, encourage professional development and assist faculty in carrying out their responsibilities.
  2. Curricula
    1. Maintain curricula to meet the needs of our service area and students. Programs including a wide variety of programs included within the areas of Applied Sciences and Engineering Technology and Business Sciences.
    2. Work collaboratively with the Director of Customized Training and Development in development and delivery of workforce training
    3. Conduct program review and evaluation of curricula
    4. Schedule classes in service area to include off-campus business, industry, and high school courses as requested
    5. Provide appropriate staffing to meet curricula needs
    6. Teach one (1) course or three (3) credit hours per year
    7. Maintain compliance with Federal, State, Local, and SACSCOC guidelines and standards

 

  1. Staff – Full-time and part-time
    1. Screen for employment, supervise, annually evaluate, and assist in carrying out their responsibilities

 

  1. Budget
    1. Propose and administer budget to include equipment, materials and supplies, travel and staffing
    2. Monitor budgetary duties assigned to Administrative Assistant (materials, supplies and travel)
    3. Apply, manage, and coordinate, as needed, grant funded opportunities as they pertain to Applied and Business Sciences and Engineering Technology that support the mission of the college
  2. General Administration
    1. Serve on committees as assigned
    2. Conduct division meetings
    3. Provide leadership in meeting the goals and carrying out the mission of the College
    4. Provide leadership for the development and maintenance of program advisory committees
    5. Maintain awareness of college policies and ensure compliance where appropriate
    6. Participate in College Council and Academic Council meetings

 

Skills and Abilities

  1. Develop an understanding and appreciation of the mission, history, current programs, services and goals of Isothermal Community College
  2. Leadership and communication skills necessary for writing reports and conducting daily business
  3. Interpersonal skills necessary for maintaining a positive environment
  4. Analytical skills necessary for interpreting statistical data  
  5. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholder
