Minimum Qualifications

• A Master’s degree or higher in an area relevant to the curriculum offerings in the Arts & Humanities Division.

• Five years of experience as an academic program department head, department chair or director at a post-secondary institution.
• Teaching experience in any of the subjects taught within the division
• Demonstrated administrative and managerial ability

Preferred Qualifications

• Leadership or management experience in a community college setting preferred.

Position Description


The Dean of Arts & Humanities is accountable for the strategic leadership and operational management of the Arts & Humanities Division.  This includes supervision and evaluation of direct reports and other employees, coordination of course scheduling and management of course loading to meet student and program need.  Management of budgets; development of relevant institutional effectiveness goals for the division; development of faculty goals that contribute to the accomplishment of the division and College's goals; assessment and continual improvement strategies of programs and courses; and the development of relationships with other institutions of higher education, and other external entities to support the College’s strategic plan.


  • Receives general supervision from Vice President for Academic Affairs.
  • Exercises direct supervision over division’s department chair, faculty, technicians, and administrative support staff.



Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:


Essential Functions:

  • Lead and manage the development and implementation process for short and long-term plans for the Arts & Humanities Division to support and contribute to the achievement of the College’s strategic objectives, goals, and mission; evaluate the effectiveness of such plans and activities and adjust as applicable.
  • Implement and monitor a comprehensive and systematic approach to continuous improvement by using and analyzing program, course and student assessment data to design, review, evaluate and revise programs and academic success initiatives.
  • Develop and implement recruitment and marketing strategies to grow enrollment in college transfer programs.
  • Provide leadership and direction to support the enrollment and student completion goals of the Associate in Fine Arts degree programs and their Career and College Promise pathways.
  • Maintain accredited program standards to assure continuation of program accreditation and program articulation agreements.
  • Lead and provide guidance in operational systems that result in effective and efficient administrative processes for budget management, inventory management, student advisement, student learning outcomes, recruitment and retention, course scheduling and instructional operations, faculty orientation, and all others systems that support instruction, instructional administration, and student support.
  • Engage in the recruitment and selection of quality faculty for the division, provide leadership development for department chairs, and encourage professional development opportunities for faculty and staff with an emphasis on remaining current field of study and promoting the college’s mission.
  • Manage and encourage communications within and between divisions that promote collaboration of program and discipline faculty, process improvement, retention, graduation, and program and instructional best practices.
  • Build and maintain relationships and alliances with four-year institutions and other external constituencies to fulfill the mission, goals and objectives of the College as it relates to the Arts & Humanities Division.
  • Implement and monitor compliance within the division with all College policies and procedures.
  • Support and document continued compliance with all SACSCOC accreditation principles relevant to the division and Academic Affairs.
  • Ensure all timelines are met and requirements are submitted by established deadlines.
  • Provide community level support by developing advisory boards that contribute to the accomplishment of the division's goals. Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, serving on committees and


Knowledge of:

  • Modern principles and practices of college transfer programming and activities for a community college.
  • Organizational and management practices as applied to the planning, analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs.
  • Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
  • Principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Principles of data-driven decision-making and predictive analytics.

Ability To:

  • Analyze problems; identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Select, supervise, train and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Prepare and analyze administrative and statistical reports, statements and correspondence.
  • Utilize digital platforms such as Ellucian Colleague, Informer, Ad Astra Platinum Analytics, Blackboard, and Acalog to increase divisional productivity.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
