Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience with curriculum development and teaching preferred
  • Experience with budget and resource management and supervising staff preferred 

Position Description

This is a 12-month position reporting directly to the Vice President of Instruction. The Dean of the Ashe Campus serves as the functional leader of the Ashe Campus, with the supervision of curriculum programs, student services, and operations. The Dean is responsible for ensuring operations and programming at the Ashe Campus are consistent with the overall college and with the needs of the Ashe Campus. 

The Dean maintains and fosters the relationship between the college, schools, and businesses; manages and assists in the development of the local budgets; provides support to faculty; works closely with the academic areas to anticipate programming and staffing needs, and assists with scheduling for the curriculum courses; serves on the Instructional Core Team and other college committees; and assists the Vice President in representing the college in the community.

This position is located at the Ashe Campus of Wilkes Community College, Jefferson, NC.

Duties include: 

  1. Plans and coordinates curriculum schedules.
  2. Determines state and local budget requests and oversees the use of allocations in coordination with the Vice President of Instructions and Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration.
  3.  Supervises Ashe Campus leadership team including office manager, Information Technology for Ashe Campus, student services, and facilities functions.  Collaborates with main campus department leaders in these areas.
  4. Promotes the growth of Ashe Early College High School (AECHS).  Works closely with the AECHS Principal. 
  5. Promotes the growth of Career and College Promise (CCP) at Ashe County High School (ACHS).
  6. Suggests and implements new curriculum programming at the Ashe Campus.
  7. Serves on college committees including Instructional Core Team (ICT), Academic & Support Services Council (ASSC), and serves on other college committees as determined by the vice president.
  8. Assesses and evaluates existing programs offered at Ashe Campus.
  9. Builds partnerships and relationships in the community, in coordination with others from Ashe Campus.
  10. Collaborates with the business and industry community to coordinate and plan courses and programs that promote the economic development of Ashe County.
  11. Hires qualified adjuncts for courses in the curriculum, in coordination with the vice president of instruction, program lead instructors, division deans, and human resources.
  12. Oversees local budget, in coordination with the Vice President of Instructions and Senior Vice President of Finance & Administration.
  13. Coordinates with division deans and others to ensure the Ashe Campus operates consistently with other aspects of the college.
  14. Collaborates with all divisions (Student Services, Financial Aid, Academic Support Center (ASC), Human Resources, Marketing, etc.) on the main campus.
  15. Supports all areas of the Ashe Campus.
  16. Advocates for the Ashe Campus within the college. 
  17. Lead special projects as assigned.
  18. Participates in appropriate professional development activities both internally and externally
  19. Promote the mission, vision, and goals of the college through community involvement and engagement, representing the college to the communities of Ashe County
  20. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
