Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

Five (5) years’ progressive professional experience in any combination of the following: higher education administration or college teaching.
 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:
Three (3) years’ progressive leadership in a community college setting, with success in administration of programs to include strategic planning, budgeting, operations, and collaboration with colleagues.

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

The Dean provides leadership and oversight for credit courses, program development, and provides direct supervision of student services, ASC, IT, facilities, maintenance, and security staff at the Havelock Campus.  The Dean oversees the effective and efficient use of fiscal, capital and human resources in accordance with college policies and procedures.  The Dean promotes instructional innovation, the development and implementation of new programs, and ensures compliance with academic and accreditation standards and college requirements.  The Dean serves on the President’s Cabinet and is a member of the Instructional Leadership Team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements a vision for the Havelock Campus; develops and oversees the budget and management of day-to-day operations
  • Directly leads the selection, orientation, training, mentoring, support, and supervision for full-time faculty, full-time staff and other employees assigned to the Havelock Campus
  • Assists the Vice President for Instruction in managing and evaluating FTE generation to include analytical reports about enrollment trends, FTE trends and fluctuations, program offering patterns, and cost/benefit analyses; manages faculty course load
  • Routinely collaborates with the Vice President for Instruction and the Dean of Student Services on matters related to academic affairs administration and student development initiatives to promote a “one-college” philosophy and ensure cohesive operations between both campuses
  • Collaborates with Student Services staff college-wide in the implementation and management of student centered academic advising
  • Works directly with the Department of Institutional Effectiveness to improve effectiveness of the Havelock Campus and to develop and maintain a culture of evidence-based actions and continuous improvement
  • Provides support and leadership in the development, implementation and outcomes assessment of department goals; strategizes new programs and course offerings for the Havelock Campus
  • Promotes instructional innovation while ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and college requirements
  • Assists in the review, update, and documentation of processes, procedures, protocols, website, catalog, and other media pertaining to Department
  • Works collaboratively with the Vice President for Instruction serving as a liaison with Early College East and K-12 relations
  • Represents the College and Department by participating in and communicating effectively with relevant community and professional organizations and agencies and student recruitment opportunities
  • Oversees the effective and efficient management of Department resources, including media, rooms, buildings, equipment, supplies and procurement
  • Addresses and resolves student matters
  • Assesses and communicates professional development needs to the Center for Teaching and Learning
  • Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
  • Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College’s mission, core values and goals

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources
  • Current complex principles and practices of instructional program development and administration
  • Organizational and management practices as applies to the analysis and evaluation of programs, policies and operational needs
  • Student learning outcomes and assessment activities at the program and course levels
  • Community college operations
  • Current trends, technologies and initiatives relative to student success

  • Adept at cultivating and sustaining high-level professional relationships and partnership and providing collaborative and inclusive leadership of faculty and staff
  • Proficiency in monitoring and assessing the performance of faculty and staff and instructional programs to make improvements or take corrective actions
  • Exceptional planning, organization, communication, presentation, negotiation, training, supervisory and interpersonal skills
  • Competency in budget planning/management, statistical research and accreditation processes including SACS, and program-specific accreditation agencies
