Position Description
Provide professional library services to students, faculty, staff, and community patrons. Responsibilities will include reference assistance, circulation of materials, library instruction, collection development, and assistance in the use of the library's electronic resources. Provide short-term and long-term strategic planning for library services. Supervise library operations and library personnel. Enhance and grow academic support services, including tutoring, to promote excellence and success for all students. Responsible for searching out grant sources, writing, preparing, and submitting grant proposals to secure external funds. The position will be responsible for overseeing the administration of federal, state, and foundational grants, post-award, to ensure costs are allowable within the budget and support the grant objectives and implementation. The position will prepare interim and final reports to evidence effective administration of funding.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Supervise the daily operation of the library including staff scheduling and library coverage.
- Provide leadership in the selection and application of new technologies intended to enhance library services.
- Manage all aspects of collection development and evaluation.
- Oversee management and leadership of the Academic Support Center Coordinator.
- Secure external funding for the college through the process of searching and writing applications for the procurement of grants.
- Observe appropriate privacy guidelines and maintain the confidentiality of all records in accordance with college policy.
DUTIES:
Learning Resources
- In conjunction with the faculty, participate in the ongoing selection and acquisition of library materials and supervise the ordering of materials.
- As a Director in the Community College Libraries in North Carolina Consortium (CCLINC), network with other librarians in the consortium and serve on committees as necessary to help steer consortia growth and development.
- Provide reference services and bibliographic instruction to library users, as well as instruction on library databases, such as NC LIVE.
- Responsible for managing and maintaining the library budget.
- Complete contracts for part-time and full-time librarians and library assistants.
- Conduct annual faculty/student/staff evaluation of library services.
- Coordinate serials management.
- Curate a successful portfolio of research databases that meet the needs of students and faculty, which includes networking with vendors.
- Assist in the development of policies and procedures and in the development of long-range plans for library services, equipment purchases, and facility usage.
- Serve on college committees as requested and participate in library-related professional associations and other professional development activities with particular emphasis on information technology.
- Be primarily responsible for training and supervising work-study students.
- Evaluate the SCC Curriculum Review Forms to determine adequate resources to support College programs.
- Complete reports for IPEDS, Service Learning, and Departmental Initiative Plan.
- Organize regular programming that helps fulfill the college’s mission of enhancing the economic, social, and cultural life of the communities we serve.
- Responsible for curating and updating the library’s website hosted through LibGuides.
- Work with the State Library & Archives and the Digital Heritage Center at UNC-Chapel Hill to preserve College artifacts.
- Serve as a college representative to the community to promote library services.
- Communicate the mission of the Academic Support Center to all faculty and staff.
- Research and develop appropriate strategies to be incorporated into the annual reports and service evidence documents for the Academic Support Services department.
- Monitor attendance and provide record-keeping for the Academic Support Center.
- Supervise Academic Support Center Coordinator
- Maintain instructional support programs, such as online tutoring.
- Serves as a member of relevant college committees closely related to functions and responsibilities of the Academic Support Services
Grant Writing
- Routinely monitor grant announcements and search for possible grants applicable to institutional needs and requests.
- Network and collaborate with other community college grant staff members throughout the state to establish or support consortiums.
- Work with staff members from grant agencies to facilitate the formation of grant proposals.
- Work closely with faculty and staff to prepare grant proposals.
- Coordinate and facilitate the development, preparation, and submission of grant proposals for Stanly Community College (SCC) and the SCC Foundation.
- Gather necessary data and background information from appropriate sources to complete grant proposals.
- Initiate and lead cooperative writing efforts that bring together teams of faculty, staff, and administrators to develop proposals that address college needs and respond to the interest of funding sources.
- Administer college grant guidelines established for tracking the grant process from project inception.
- Conduct training for college personnel about the grant process at the college including searching for and completing grant proposals and projects.
- Develop and manage a comprehensive timeline of all grant-funded projects for tracking the grant process from project inception to completion of project goals.
