Minimum Qualifications

A Master's Degree with 18 graduate hours in Criminal Justice Administration, Emergency Management, or Public Safety Administration with five years of experience as a faculty member in a post-secondary institution is required. Three to five years of successful experience in educational administration, preferably at the Community College level is required. Experience in teaching online courses is preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required. Candidates must be certified as a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer, Firefighter, EMT Instructor, and/or North Carolina Detention Officer Course Instructor and qualify as School Director within one year of hire. Knowledge of North Carolina Office of Emergency Management Services (OEMS), NC Department of Justice (DOJ), and NC Office of State Fire Marshall (OSFM) rules and accreditation procedures are required.

Position Description

The Dean of Public Safety/Workforce Continuing Education Services is responsible for teaching an average of 3-6 credit hours per semester. The Dean will provide leadership for the institutional effectiveness of the division through ongoing assessment, planning, evaluation, program review, and ensure accurate records and reports are maintained and submitted as required. Monitor budget expenditures including equipment, service contracts, part-time contracts, and travel. The Dean will supervise and conduct student advisement, pre-registration, and registration within the Public Safety Division throughout the year. The Dean will ensure College policy and procedures are followed when dealing with matters relating to students and personnel and will serve as a liaison between faculty/staff and administration and disseminate relevant information to departments; coordinate Public Safety marketing, recruitment, and retention efforts and review program and curriculum information for accuracy in all print and electronic publications; participate in civic, community, and/or professional organizations and activities. The Dean will investigate and develop, as appropriate, new curricula, programs, and course offerings; monitor and evaluate Public Safety curricula and course offerings and scheduling, and ensure programs and courses reflect current thinking and practice and are in compliance with state and national accreditation standards. The Dean will monitor advisory committee activities and supervise the scheduling of classes and assignment of instructors for all programs in the Public Safety & Workforce Continuing Education Divisions by department chairs. Monitor faculty teaching loads. The Dean will monitor and assess divisional faculty and staff professional development goals/activities; conduct classroom and performance evaluations of department chairs and program coordinators, and monitor faculty (full and part-time) classroom/lab/shop/clinical evaluations and annual performance evaluations. Assist Department Chairs and Coordinators with the process of recruiting, selecting, and orienting full and part-time faculty.
