Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, leadership, business administration or related field and approximately five to seven years of increasingly responsible management experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Experience in the areas of student engagement, retention, enrollment services, student completion, and equity.
- Experience with student information systems, data tracking systems, developing actionable retention plans, and building a positive rapport with faculty and staff stakeholders.
- Strong critical and reasoning skills; superior written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree with experience in a higher education setting including but not limited to: advising, enrollment management/services, advising, male mentoring, student conduct, student affairs and student life and engagement.
- Five to seven years of management experience in a community college or four-year college or university environment.
- Experience with student information systems, data tracking systems, developing actionable enrollment and retention plans, and building a positive rapport with faculty and staff
Position Description
The Dean of Students, Equity, Retention, and Success is responsible for working collaboratively to plan, manage, and direct administrative activities related to retention, equitable outcomes, and success efforts to meet the holistic needs of credit students. This role will provide oversight to the areas of advising, student life and engagement, athletics, accessibility services (ADA), tutoring services, college success courses, student conduct, and the first-year experience (FYE). Further, the position will work directly with student affinity groups such as Men’s Achievement Academy and Vanguard, Initiative on Equity for Women (V.I.E.W.) The Dean of Students, Equity, Retention and Success will partner with faculty and staff to improve students retention, success, equitable outcomes for all students, and enrollment. Moreover, the position is designed to be an internal subject matter expert to members of the college on matters related to student equitable outcomes, retention, wrap-around services and success. The position will be one of the primary leaders responsible for accountability and metrics related to equitable outcomes for students. This position partners with and reports to the Vice President of Learning, Student Engagement & Student Success.

- Provides responsible leadership and supervision in ensuring the post-admissions experience for students is holistic in the areas of advising, student affinity groups, student life and engagement, accessibility services, and athletics and tutoring.
- Collaborates with the Dean of Student Access and Support and Vice President of Learning, Student Engagement & Success to increase the number of credit students continuing enrollment through completion. Impact enrollment management through bolstering student engagement, retention, and success initiatives.
- Serve as the Title IX Coordinator.
- Partner with the Dean of Student Access and Support to redesign and implement the college’s Strategic Enrollment Management Plan.
- Serve as the lead administrator for Aviso Retention.
- Researches, examines, and implements strategies that align with the college's student success framework in Achieving the Dream (ATD).
- Serves as an active member of the ATD Core Team.
- Serves an active member of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council.
- Partner with senior leaders, faculty, and staff to ensure that student experiences and outcomes are enhanced through an equity lens.
- Works collaboratively to examine and strategically close equity gaps related to student outcomes. Develops, plans and evaluates student engagement and retention activities to ensure they are leading to positive student outcomes.
- Makes recommendations to update policies, procedures, and processes that will remove barriers for all students.
- Ensures that the Academic Success Center provides robust tutoring options for in-person and online students.
- Works with campus departments including admissions and financial aid, academic and campus deans, planning and research to enhance student experiences.
- Utilizes data, research, and promising practices to improve overall operations of the areas supervised.
- Develops mid-range and long-range plans to the area in collaboration with direct reports and Vice President of Learning, Student Engagement & Success. Performs needs assessment. Evaluates effectiveness of current systems, engagement opportunities, and processes. Creatively uses state-of-the-art technology in the delivery of student engagement opportunities and co-curricular programs that meet the needs of a diverse student population. Modifies processes and practices based on data and research.
- In collaboration with the department of institutional research and planning, develops, implements and monitors outcomes assessment of retention and success strategies, analyzing data and writing reports to guide future action.
- Develops, implements, and monitors budget in alignment with the college's mission, vision, and goals.
- Supervises, evaluates, and provides professional learning and development opportunities for a team of professionals and support staff. Provide coaching, mentoring and redirection when appropriate. Make recommendations to continue or discontinue employment.
- Assists in providing orientation and professional development for staff within area of responsibility.
- Serves as the primary lead for Student Code of Conduct at the college.
- Collaborates with other college officials such as academic deans and other leaders to resolve conduct matters.
- Provides effective management of the College fiscal resources including fiscal responsibility and accountability for assigned budgets and overall supervisory authority and accountability for the budget process in the division.
- Initiates and participates in overall program planning for all responsible areas.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Learning, Student Engagement & Success.
