Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a transportation related discipline, educational administration, or other related field.
• Three years’ experience as an administrator in the post-secondary educational environment.
• Relevant and successful career experience in the transportation technologies industry.
• Be an independent and objective thinker who brings a broad perspective to problem solving; a compassionate and positive motivator possessing the ability to articulate a vision incorporating a keen awareness of the community college mission.
• Be a collaborative advocate for full and part-time faculty, staff and the division in its role in the greater college; a reflective listener with strong interpersonal skills valuing open, honest communication – balancing established success while encouraging innovation.
• Possess a flexible management style coupled with creative problem solving, be comfortable with technology as an instructional methodology and understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the College.
• Demonstrated practice of fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in the classroom and among teams, as well as experience working in a diverse environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Transportation Technologies, educational administration, or a related field.
• Five or more years of experience in supervisory positions at the community college level that would logically lead to the Dean of Transportation Technologies position.
• Teaching and/or administrative experience with academic programs in curriculum and workforce development in a community college setting.

Position Description

The Dean of Transportation Programs will be a member of a diverse team that will provide leadership and assume responsibility for the administration of all divisional activities.

Personnel:
• Assume responsibility for supervision and evaluation of all divisional personnel.
• Supervise and approve assignment of teaching loads and office schedules within the Transportation Technologies Division.
• Coordinate assignments for classroom, shop, and clinical visitations for the purpose of instructional supervision.
• Interview and make recommendations for employment of all full-time personnel within the Transportation Technologies Division. Prepare and submit all required institutional documentation for employment.
• Provide orientation program for all new employees of the Transportation Technologies Division
• Submit annual recommendation on contract status for all divisional personnel.
• Approve all leave requests for divisional personnel, including requests for sabbatical leave and leave without pay.
• Assume responsibility for maintaining accurate records of all leave taken by divisional personnel.
• Assume responsibility for maintenance of accurate and current personnel files for all divisional personnel.
• Recommend divisional personnel for committee assignment.
• Assist divisional personnel in development of professional self-improvement programs.
• Assume responsibility for oversight and submission of annual performance evaluations of all divisional personnel.

Finance:
• Assume responsibility for management of divisional budget.
• Allocate all budgets for all departments within division.
• Review and approve all requests for expenditures within division.
• Assist in the development of institutional salary schedules. Administer institutional salary schedules as they apply to the division.
• Coordinate collection, preparation, checking and submission of all required reports (end of quarter reports, time sheets, progress reports, etc.).
• Order all texts for divisional courses.
Curriculum:
• Coordinate the evening and day curriculum offerings to provide continuity and quality.
• Assume responsibility for preparation of all divisional course schedules and coordination of these schedules with other divisions in the College.
• Prepare recommendations on the implementation of new curricula.
• Review and approve recommendations for changes in existing programs. Assume responsibility for presentation of proposed changes to College Curriculum Committee.
• Coordinate the development of course outlines and other relevant curricula materials.
• Assume responsibility for preparation and submission of all divisional materials required for all accrediting bodies.
Student Success:
• Supervise all divisional registration activities.
• Approve all requests for late registration, audit, and independent study, grade changes, and issuance of proficiency examination grades.
• Coordinate assignment of all students within the division to all faculty advisors.
• Coordinate activities of divisional academic review committee, including convening of the committee and rendering a final decision on academic appeals.
• Assume responsibility for adjudication of all student and faculty concerns related to instructional matters within the division.

• Keep abreast of current technology relevant to instruction, advising, curriculum and academic programs, and required institutional practices.

• Attend all required department, division, and college-wide meetings.
• Participate in interviews and recommend employment of full and part-time faculty.

Community Relations:
• Maintain contact with specialized vocations where applicable.
• Be alert to public relations opportunities and use these to promote the College and the department.
• Coordinate activities of divisional advisory committee including approval of proposed members, scheduling of committee meetings as required and maintaining files of meeting minutes.
• Serve on College committees as required.
• Provide administration with information for institutional publications.

• Incorporate inclusive content and work to eliminate discriminatory and exclusionary content from curriculum.
• Pursue continuous improvement in the areas of subject matter expertise; teaching and learning; the use of educational technology; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and other areas related to the strategic goals of the college
• Facilitate the learning process by designing and implementing inclusive instructional activities that are appropriate and meaningful and that maximize equitable student outcomes
Other:
• Assume responsibility for being familiar with and adhering to all policies of the College.
• Develop annual divisional plan of operation including objectives consistent with College’s institutional effectiveness plan.
• Assume responsibility for planning and use of facilities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the vice president.
