Position Description

DEFINITION:

 

The Dean of University Transfer and Partnerships is accountable for the strategic leadership and operational management of the University Transfer Division which comprises all transfer programs, departments and courses that support all curriculum program general education requirements.  This position requires strong leadership for the division’s departments, supervision and evaluation of faculty and other employees, coordination of course scheduling, and management of course loads to meet student and program needs. In addition, the position will forecast the needs of the division and develop and administer plans for future growth of all university transfer programs.  Management of budgets; development of relevant institutional effectiveness goals for the division; development of faculty goals that contribute to the accomplishment of the division and College's goals; assessment and continual improvement strategies of programs and courses; oversight of online learning, scheduling of classes, course design, curriculum development; and expansion of relationships with other institutions and programs of higher education including K-12, Career and College Promise (CCP), Cooperative and Innovative High Schools (CIHS), UNC System institutions, NC Independent Colleges and Universities, and other external entities to support the College’s strategic plan.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

  • Receives general supervision from the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Exercises supervision over division’s Associate Dean, department chairs, faculty, technicians, program chairs and/or directors, and administrative support staff.

 

Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

 

ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and implement practices, processes, policies, objectives, and goals for the University Transfer Division; support and contribute to the achievement of the College’s strategic objectives, goals, and mission; determine the strength of such practices, processes, and policies, and adjust accordingly. 
  • Use data to determine the effectiveness of academic success resources and other programs to improve program and course outcomes to support continuous improvement.
  • Maintain departmental structures that are constantly evolving as well as consolidation of disciplines in departments that help ensure proper and effective supervision and management.
  • Maintain quality relationships with K-12 entities, Career and College Promise (CCP) pathways and the College Accelerator Program(s) (CAP).
  • Develop and implement processes to grow enrollment in University Transfer programs, collaborating with Student Services and Community Relations; identify and market career path opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate articulation agreements with university partners; actively recruit new partnerships.
  • Encourage and help manage the enrollment, retention, and completion goals of University Transfer programs.
  • Maintain program integrity to ensure continuation of program accreditation, and program articulation agreements.
  • Guide operations that result in effective and efficient administrative processes for budget management, inventory management, student learning outcomes, recruitment and retention, course scheduling and instructional operations, faculty orientation, and all other systems that support instruction, instructional administration, and student success.
  • Recruit quality faculty for the division, coordinate leadership development for department chairs, and equip faculty and staff with tools and resources to cultivate growth and advancement via professional development opportunities.
  • Develop a consistent, uniform culture for all departments regarding policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Communicate effectively within and between divisions that promote partnership of faculty, programs, courses, etc.; foster interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Build and expand relationships with four-year institutions and other external constituencies to fulfill the mission, goals, and objectives of the College.
  • Monitor compliance within the division with all College policies and procedures.
  • Contribute and maintain compliance requirements with all SACSCOC accreditation principles.
  • Provide supervision of Instructional Operations including but not limited to course scheduling, LMS and online learning initiatives, curriculum committee changes and program maintenance, catalog management, student evaluation administration, instructional design, and training of faculty that directly support instruction.
  • Oversee advisory boards for programs and engage community members to participate in reaching the division’s goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to serving on committees and participating in professional development.
  • Effectively evaluate and support all direct reports and others as needed.

 

Qualifications

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of university transfer programming and activities for a community college.
  • Organizational and management practices as applied to the planning, analysis and evaluation of programs, policies, and operational needs.
  • Practices of budget preparation and administration.
  • Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
  • Principles of data-driven decision-making and predictive analytics.

Ability To:

  • Analyze problems; identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Select, supervise, train, motivate and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Prepare and analyze administrative and statistical reports, statements, and correspondence.
  • Utilize digital platforms such as Ellucian Colleague, Informer, Ad Astra, and Acalog, to increase divisional productivity.
  • Maintain working knowledge of college’s LMS.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Interpret and apply CFCC goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:
    1. Making observations
    2. Reading and writing
    3. Communicating with others
    4. Operating assigned equipment
    5. Handling varied tasks simultaneously

 

  • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, which may include the following:

  4. Bending, stooping, climbing, or lifting up to 50 pounds

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
