Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Current Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) certification as a Dental Assistant II with experience in fourhanded dentistry. Must have proof of instruction in educational theory and methodology principles from a recognized provider or accredited institution.  Five calendar years or the equivalent of full-time clinical experience as a Dental Assistant II.  Prior teaching experience at a community college preferred.  Support the success of assigned programs.  Skilled in the use of office and classroom/lab technologies.  Ability to work effectively and collegially with colleagues.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior teaching experience at a community college.

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

This 12-month full-time Dental Assisting Faculty/Instructor is responsible for all aspects of educational encounters with students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting, in collaboration with the Program Director. Instruction activities require, among other things, subject matter expertise and thorough preparation for every instructional responsibility.  Advising duties demand knowledge of the students’ chosen field of study, as well as an understanding of registration, testing, and other procedures.  Other responsibilities include serving on committees, attending College functions, and recruitment and retention activities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:      

  • Follows appropriate course goals and objectives along with evaluation methods which accurately measure student learning. Evaluates student progress toward goal achievement. Be an advocate for student success.
  • Be thoroughly prepared for each instructional responsibility, regardless of setting
  • Maintain an up-to-date syllabus for each course using the approved syllabus template.
  • Ensure instructional materials comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. 
  • Be present for the entire scheduled instructional time or provide appropriate class coverage plans to the Program Director or Lead Faculty, in case of necessary absences.
  • Teach a typical load of 18-21 contact hours during the contract period, as determined by the Program Director. Other assigned activities may affect teaching load.
  • Collaborate with program director to develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum.
  • Attend professional development and training related to teaching methodology and dental assisting trends.
  • Provides clinical supervision and guidance (clinical and lab) to students as assigned.
  • Assists with test construction and proctoring of examinations as needed.
  • Identifies at-risk students and intervenes with assistance of the course coordinator and Program Director.
  • Participates in selection of textbooks and other educational resources.
  • Participates in academic advising and counseling as assigned. Serves as an academic advisor to assigned students. Understand and work within the registration process and programs of study/catalog requirements.
  • Maintains professional competence and certification through continuing education, professional activities and/or practice.
  • Performs other duties as required including general administrative/office duties as needed.
