Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

A dental assisting instructor will provide clinical and/or didactic instruction in the Dental Assisting Program. This position is a 9-month plus the 8-week summer session.

 

Classification

Curriculum faculty, full-time, exempt.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Maintain credentials as required by accrediting agencies and regulatory bodies.

• Demonstrates and maintains current subject area knowledge.

• Adhere to academic policies and procedures.

• Maintain teaching course load in compliance with college and accreditation workload policy.

• Prepare and teach assigned dental assisting courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedule.

• Facilitate learning and interact with students in lecture, clinical, and small group settings.

• Maintain accurate records for each course taught

• Operate dental assisting laboratory, classroom, and computer equipment.

• Establish and follow professional growth plan to maintain and expand current knowledge of dental assisting theory and practice and actively participate in college sponsored professional growth activities, such as in-service. Participate in professional associations and ongoing continuing education activities.

• Appropriately challenge, engage, support and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning in a professional, respectful environment.

• Establish good relationships with professionals in the dental field including a broad spectrum of public and private organizations.

• Assist the program coordinator with curriculum planning and development of courses

• Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the syllabus

• Assists with student recruitment, advising and retention.

• Submit all college reports in an accurate, timely fashion

• Assists department with faculty recruitment

• Assists in selection and ordering of equipment, supplies and learning resources.

• Participate in college events and activities

• Attend college commencements

• Serve on college and division committees

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform other duties as assigned. 

• Collaborate with peers in divisional, campus, and community projects.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Physical Demands          

Must be able to use and demonstrate all equipment.

Hearing voice conversation sitting, standing and walking occurs daily. Bending, gripping hand and fingers, kneeling, lifting/carrying 0-34 pounds, reaching, standing long periods of time as well as stooping over patients and students.

 

Licensing Requirement

CDA, CPR certified

 

Working Conditions and Environment

Weekly travel (within business hours) will be required to observe students in clinical rotations.

 

Equipment Operation

Able to operate and demonstrate all equipment required to perform the duties of a dental assistant.
