Minimum Qualifications

  1. Must hold a baccalaureate degree or higher.
  2. Must have had instruction in educational theory and methodology, e.g., curriculum development, educational psychology, test construction, measurement and evaluation.
  3. Must be a Dental Assisting National Board Certified Dental Assistant or dentist licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina
  4. Must have occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles, either as a dental assistant or working with a chairside assistant.

Position Description

In support of the overall Learning College, the Dental Assisting Instructor will teach/educate students in the Dental Assisting Program.  The position is funded for the 2022-2023 Academic Year.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff and administrators as an individual or as part of a team.
  2. Deliver courses utilizing a variety of teaching methods which may include a combination of traditional, internet, and hybrid
  3. Recruit and advise students in the Dental Assisting program
  4. Assist director with program assessment.
  5. Provide quality instruction, in alignment with CODA accreditation standards, in a variety of dental assisting courses in the program, lab, lecture and clinical.
  6. Aid with clinical coordination
  7. Collaborate with Mountain Area Regional Health Education (MAHEC) partners in maintaining relationship/partnership
  8. Participate in advisory committee and program meetings
  9. Serve as an ambassador in the community for Isothermal Community College and Criminal Justice
  10.  Maintain and update certifications pertinent to program
  11. Perform expectations of a faculty member, including maintaining student office hours, as stated in the Full-Time Faculty Job Description
  12. Other duties as assigned

  2. Understand and use the principles of effective teaching
  3. Working skills and knowledge of all Dental Assisting subjects
  4. Ability to develop good teacher-student-instructor relationship
  5. Administration and supervision ability of personnel and resources
