Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in in their current field of expertise from a regionally accredited university or a related Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited university with 18 graduate hours in that field
  • Currently serving as a Director of a program within the Professional and Technical Division with experience leading and evaluating team members
  • Five years’ experience in academics and assessment in a community college or university
  • Proven abilities related to assessments, PSLOs, CSLOs, and SACSCOC requirements
  • Committed to and support of the unique nature and role of Brunswick Community College and the community it serves

Position Description

GENERAL FUNCTION:

 

Department Chairs are teaching faculty who carry additional responsibilities above those of nine-month, full-time faculty members. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 

  • Serves as the Director of his/her current program
  • Teaches a class load as noted appropriate for Chairs in the Faculty Schedules and Workload Policy
  • Provides coordination, oversight, leadership and day-to-day supervision and operation of the Department of Business, Engineering and Technology
  • Provides leadership to and promote collaboration among full-time and adjunct department  faculty
  • Collaborates with Student Services, Continuing Education & Workforce Development, BCC Foundation, and Marketing to identify initiatives that support the success of assigned programs
  • Sets a climate for positive attitude, growth and expectations among faculty by supporting the goals and objectives of the college and division
  • Serves as a mentor to the department’s full-time and adjunct faculty in establishing key goals and objectives
  • Coordinates the annual program operating budget and track expenditures in operational areas
  • Recruits, hire and orient, evaluate and provide success plans for credentialed faculty and staff members
  • Accurately maintain all required college records/reports
  • Assists in developing new programs within the division
  • Participates in department, division and college-wide student recruitment, advising activities, and training sessions
  • Participates in on-campus professional development activities
  • Promotes Brunswick Community College, the division, and the departments supervised
  • Contributes to curriculum development, program review, and assessments
  • Schedules, organize, and maintain departmental advisory committees when appropriate
  • Finalizes spring, summer and fall semester schedules for their respective departments
  • Evaluates the performance of every full-time and adjunct faculty member in the department annually
  • Reviews and choose text books, reference materials, software, etc. in collaboration with faculty
  • Participates in meetings with the Dean, Administration, community members and serve on committees
  • Adheres to the departmental course guidelines and ensure content is SACSCOC compliant
  • Maintains safe and fully-equipped classroom facilities by reporting issues to appropriate departments
  • Fosters a student-success-centered environment in their departments that supports the College’s Mission, Goals, and Core Values
  • Serves as a mentor, advisor, evaluator, and instructor for our students
  • Be accessible to assist staff, students and department faculty as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

 

  • Read, analyze, and interpret both verbal and written communications; Respond coherently, both verbally and in writing, to students, co-workers, and individuals having contact with the college;
  • Present information effectively to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors;
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
  • Implement innovative instructional technology across various department curriculums
  • Review, update and implement revised or new curriculum as needed in the programs supervised
  • Demonstrates excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work with diverse faculty/student population and demonstrates strong interpersonal skills
