Communication, both oral and written skills are necessary. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Physical activity required in the performance of this job includes occasionally lifting and moving up to 30 pounds, must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and climb stairs, frequently required to stand and walk.

Position Description

Announcement Summary

Fayetteville Technical Community College is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Department Chair in the division of Corporate and Industry Training. The ability to effectively perform a wide variety of responsible duties in support of the Dean of Corporate and Industry Training is critical for success in this position. Expertise in the knowledge of College policies and procedures and how they work in Continuing Education. Qualified candidates will possess excellent computer skills, demonstrate evidence of flexible work experiences and a willingness to change; be open-minded, fair, and possess the ability to see multiple perspectives; be willing to take and manage risks and accept responsibility for professional and personal growth.

Duties

The successful candidate will:
Participate in the development, planning, and implementation of goals and objectives related to assigned curriculum department.

Perform overall coordination duties for the department, including coordination of curriculum development and review activities.

Assist the Dean in the marketing of assigned department/program; provide input on marketing materials and literature for distribution to potential students; make presentations to schools, organizations, and other contacts.

Provide input to the Dean on program budget needs to include part-time salaries, supplies, equipment, travel, and other costs.

Monitor all expenditures for cost effectiveness and efficiency of departmental/program operations.

Develop, review, and recommend new or modified course outlines, supplies, materials, and textbooks; maintain currency of instructional techniques and methods.

Provide to the Dean proposed revisions and updates of course outlines and syllabi for approval/ with the final approval authority.

Assist the Dean with the identification and recruitment of potential faculty and lab technicians for the department/program; participate in interview selection committees; provide initial departmental/program orientation and training to new hires, especially adjunct faculty members new to the College.

Assist the Dean with the scheduling and staffing for all classes in the department, including monitoring classes for effectiveness and efficiency of operations.

Provide written input to the Dean on the evaluation of faculty, staff, and lab technicians assigned within the department, as deemed appropriate by the Dean and/or Associate Vice President for Corporate and Continuing Education.

Recommend to the Dean courses that could be offered face-to-face or via distance learning techniques and coordinate with faculty members to teach the new courses; coordinate with faculty for enrollment into Excellence in Teaching (EIT) and Certified Online Instructor (COI) training.

Coordinate and assist in the maintenance and security of equipment, as appropriate.

Submit a Personal and Professional Development Plan to the Dean on an annual basis and ensure faculty assigned to the department/program also provides a well-thought out plan.

Participate in student advisement and registration processes.

Make appropriate recommendations to the Dean on student graduation readiness.

Resolve complaints or problems among faculty, staff, and students within the department and advise the Dean of potential escalation of problems, as appropriate.

Verify accuracy and timely submission of 10% rosters and final grade rosters for faculty members assigned to the department.

Assist with classroom verification.

Comply with the instructional responsibilities, as explained in the job description for instructional faculty.

Perform other duties as assigned for curriculum department as a part of the administrative responsibilities for teaching faculty.

Register classes and accurately complete paperwork associated.

Provide detailed information to staff, faculty, and students while maintaining confidentiality of records.

Assist Dean with faculty and student communication.

Distribute Corporate & Continuing Education publication to various sites throughout the county.

Assist Dean with schedule management.

Complete special projects and assignments as required and perform related duties assigned.

Operate office equipment including copiers and phones, and use a computer for spreadsheet, word processing, database management, and other applications.

Manage and organize detailed paper and electronic records.

Manage classrooms assigned to Department Chair.

Manage supplies for various faculty and classrooms.
