TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the Institution and the Nursing Program.  Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision.  Able to teach in various delivery modes.  Willing to accept day and/or evening teaching assignments and teaching assignments at other locations as needed by the Institution.  This position requires knowledge of current Nursing practice for both the Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, and Certified Nursing Assistant, as well as knowledge of the North Carolina Board of Nursing Rules and Laws related to Nursing Education.

Minimum Education and Experience: Program Director requirements:
(1) Hold a current unrestricted license or multistate licensure privilege to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina;
(2) Have two years of full-time experience as a faculty member in a board approved nursing program; 
(3) Be experientially qualified to lead the program to accomplish the mission, goals, and expected program outcomes; 
(4) Hold a graduate degree in nursing (MSN) from a regionally accredited institution; 
(5) Have preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, appropriate to assignment, as defined by the NC Board of Nursing. 
(6) Maintain competence in the areas of assigned responsibility; and 
(7) Have current knowledge of components of the nursing practice for the registered nurse and the licensed practical nurse.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION:

Director of Nursing is a 12 month position. Annual Salary is $63,720.00 and will be commensurate with experience.

Position Description

General Description:   A Department Chairperson is responsible to the appropriate Dean and the Vice President for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer and works in concert with Lead Instructors and Instructors in the department to provide effective instructional programs within that department.  Department Chairpersons will receive a course load reduction.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

In addition to the duties assigned to an instructor, the Department Chairperson's responsibilities and duties include:

  1. Serves as a member of the Instructional Leadership Team and participates in academic and administrative decision making within the Instructional Area.
  2. Participates in institutional planning by membership on the President’s Council.
  3. Serves as the communication liaison among the appropriate Dean , the Lead Instructors and the Department faculty.
  4. Oversees the planning and maintenance of annual student learning and program outcomes within the department's programs for review in the College’s strategic planning and evaluation process.
  5. Oversees department equipment and supply purchases and budgets and recommends expenditures to the appropriate Dean.
  6. Coordinates the development of the semester schedule in accordance with the Curriculum Schedule Timeline in collaboration with the Registrar’s office and the appropriate Dean and Vice President for Instruction/Chief Academic Officer.
  7. Reviews annually the curriculum standards for each program within the department, making certain that NCCCS and other applicable agency standards are met.
  8. Ensures appropriate courses of study, ICRs and rubrics are updated as needed and that current syllabi are available through the College website.
  9. Supervises and assesses scheduled curriculum program reviews and enrollment management reports.
  10. Plans and completes partnership events with local schools and employers and other initiatives to support the program.
  11. Ensures the effective support for adjunct faculty.
  12. Oversees the selection process for new faculty. 
  13. Serves as communication liaison for other departments and administrative offices requiring information, opinions, or recommendations on matters relating to the department or its students.
  14. Ensures the timely selection of departmental texts, and the purchasing of textbook orders and ancillaries.
  15. Supervises the coordination of program advisory committees within the department.
  16. Completes other duties as required to meet academic, RCC, and NCCCS requirements.
  17. If governed by outside agencies, department chairs will ensure the department’s programs meet that agency’s requirements.

Added Duties and Responsibilities:  Nursing Department

  1. Ensure that the College maintains program compliance with the NC Board of Nursing (NCBON).
  2. Represent Richmond Community College at NCBON, various healthcare boards, NC RIBN Collaborative Leadership Team, and other program meetings.
  3. Evaluate new, and maintain current, clinical sites, and ensure clinical site and student compliance with facility and NCBON requirements. 
  4. Ensure that all nursing faculty—including adjuncts--meet current NCBON requirements.
  5. Review student applicant files—including students articulating to other institutions—and determine eligibility for, and progression in, Nursing Programs.  In addition, coordinate Nursing Student Orientation and ADN Pre-Nursing sessions.
  6. Meet at least annually with clinical facilities representatives to review current and future clinical/preceptorship experiences, and collect data related to student and program performance.
  7. Reviews all student evaluations of instructors to determine trends and areas needing improvement.
  8. Complete required Program Descriptive Report for the NCBON site visit.
