Minimum Qualifications

Required

  • Earned Master’s degree preferably in Medical Laboratory Science or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Holds current ASCP-BOC or ASCP-BOC generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Science Technologist.
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a clinical laboratory setting. 
  • A minimum of three (3) years’ teaching experience.
  • Has solid understanding of NAACLS accreditation requirements.
  • Has demonstrated the ability to develop successful strategies for enrollment growth, student success and student retention. 

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Teaching experience at a community college level, teaching college level courses, and evaluating student knowledge of current NAACLS accreditation standards and procedures.
  • Familiarity with North Carolina Community College curriculum structure and processes.
  • Curriculum /program development experience, policy and procedure formulation; and evaluating program effectiveness

Position Description

Alamance Community College is seeking a dynamic and innovative department head to serve as an instructor, transformational leader and subject matter expert for our Medical Laboratory Technology and Histotechnology Programs. The successful candidate will be an engaged teacher with experience in a community college environment who fosters student success and professional readiness.

 

 Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Administration of the MLT and Histotechnology program operations, and instruction of MLT courses within in the program
  • Planning and improvement of the curriculum
  • Placing /scheduling /monitoring of students during the clinical rotations
  • Growing and maintaining sufficient quality clinical sites for the program.
  • Regularly consistent contact, advising students in the program.
  • Developing recruitment, retention and student success strategies
  • Maintaining the quality and reputation of the program
  • Fostering relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participating in the budget preparation process
  • Facilitating meetings of the advisory committee
  • Staying current with requirements of the program including maintaining good standing with NAACLS accreditation.
  • Participating in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional education every three years.

This position requires strong interpersonal skills in communication with students to include recruiting and advising, as well as participation with colleagues, staff, administrators, and community partners as individuals or as a part of a team. Participation in college functions, committee assignments and other tasks as assigned is also required. Work hours may include day, evening, and weekend hours
