Master's degree

Three years of experience as an instructor in a Medical Lab Technology and Phlebotomy program in a post-secondary institution

Generalist certification as a medical lab scientist or medical technologist, ASCP-BOC or ASCP-BOCi

Supervisory and leadership experience

Position Description

This position is responsible for coordinating all instructional and academic activities within the department, and supervising curriculum and continuing education course development.  This position also serves in a faculty role when needed to accommodate program courses, not to exceed 20 % of workload.

 Responsibilities and Duties (*Essential Functions):

*Develops educational programs to achieve the institution's objectives and to meet the standards established by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS)

*Guides faculty in the development of the curriculum design to maintain currency and rigor and to fully implement and evaluate student learning outcomes and overall program outcomes

*Analyzes, evaluates, revises and maintains an educational program consistent with current Medical Lab Technology and Phlebotomy trends, policies, and procedures

*Prepares and submits to the Dean of Health Sciences, departmental goals and prioritized budget requests annually with faculty input

*Validates faculty certifications and credentials annually

*Monitors the departmental budget; reviews requisitions for equipment, supplies and materials needed for the department

*Maintains and updates affiliation agreements and processes to ensure all students and faculty meet credentialing requirements for each agency assigned

*Devises and directs maintenance of a record system of clinical experience, exits and re-entries, grades, and general background information for each student

Provides student instruction to accommodate program courses when needed

Collaborates with student services staff and Medical Lab Technology and Phlebotomy department faculty to develop and implement admission standards for Medical Lab Technology and Phlebotomy students

Assists with orientation and registration of students

Collaborates with the Clinical Coordinator to ensure appropriate clinical placement for all students

Collaborates with instructors assigned, to ensure currency and maintenance of lab equipment and adequacy of supplies

Holds periodic conferences with instructors and students to interpret objectives and policies of the school, to indicate changes in methods or procedures, and to coordinate all phases of the educational process

Schedules regular office hours for consultation and academic counseling with students

Schedules and hosts advisory board meetings at least two times per year

Prepares periodic reports concerning department activities, progress and achievement of students

Conducts yearly evaluation of faculty members using input from students, peers, and faculty self-evaluations

Interviews faculty, recommends appointment and termination of employment of faculty members and shares in responsibility for orientation of new faculty through assignment of mentors

Ensures new faculty participates in required college wide and departmental orientation

Serves as a member of faculty committees, conducts scheduled faculty meetings, and participates in professional meetings and community activities
