Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
- Supervisory experience.
- Three years of increasingly responsible student services experience in an educational setting with an emphasis on crisis intervention, retention initiative, career development or academic advising.
- Team-building, strategic planning and strong interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred:
- Enrollment management software experience.

The role of the Director, Advising and Student Success is to provide crisis intervention, counseling, assessment, advising, career exploration and development while maintaining a functional online and physical presence for career, college transfer and academic advising services. Oversees retention activities and special population intervention services and works collaboratively with faculty/staff to develop an advising model and advisor training that supports a college wide student success and retention plan that aligns with Completion by Design Principles. Exercises functional supervision over professional advisors/success coaches and the Accessibility and Conduct Coordinator.
The Director, Advising and Student Success receives supervision from the Vice President, Student Success and Enrollment Management (SSEM).
Examples of Duties:
- Serve as a college liaison to N.C. Works Career Center, Aviso Retention, and Career Coach Advising Tool.
- Provide crisis intervention and community referrals to assist students with their personal, educational and career goals and success.
- Possess knowledge of all curriculum programs and provide academic advising.
- Provide career assessment and exploration opportunities to students.
- Serve as a liaison to the testing center and provide guidance on RISE developmental education policies.
- Collect and analyze academic progress data from term to term.
- Collaborate with the Coordinator of Student Life and Leadership to offer student success programming, college/transfer fairs and resources that support and enhance instruction and the development of the "whole" student.
- Work collaboratively with Academic Deans and faculty/staff to develop appropriate services to students to include ACA course development support, placement testing, orientation, advising, counseling and referral/crisis intervention and retention activities.
- Maintain a working relationship with community agencies and college/university professionals for appropriate referrals.
- Respond to student complaints and grievances at the informal level according to college policy.
- Coordinate specific professional development opportunities for SSEM personnel and collaborate with faculty/staff to provide professional development regarding student-related issues, advising and college transfer admissions.
- Serve on college committees as assigned (Title IX Team, CARE Team, Enrollment Management).
- Participate in appropriate professional development workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President, SSEM.
- The ability to work a flexible schedule as needed.
