Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in education, higher education administration, or related area; 18 graduate hours in a teaching content area preferred.

• Experience with curriculum development and teaching, and an understanding of high impact teaching practices.

• Experience with advising college students and knowledge of career pathways.

• Experience with budget and resource management.

• Experience with leading teams and supervising diverse staff roles.

• Demonstrated passion for student success and promoting equitable outcomes for all students.

• Understanding of community college mission, and barriers and challenges to retention and completion.

• Ability to forge partnerships and cultivate collaboration across all campus locations (embracing the ‘one college, many locations’ philosophy)

• Demonstrated ability with program development and using data for continuous improvement.

Position Description

This is a 12-month position reportly directly to the Vice president of Instruction. The Director serves as the manager of the day-to-day facilities and programmatic offerings of the site, ensuring that the Center is a learning and training hub for the Alleghany community. The Director oversees and plans local facility operations; maintains the relationship between the college, the Blue Ridge Business Development Center, and other schools and businesses; manages and assists in the development of the local budgets; provides support to adjunct and full-time faculty; works closely with the academic areas to anticipate programming and staffing needs and assists with scheduling for the curriculum courses at the center; serves on the Instructional Core Team and other college committees; and assists the Vice President in representing the college in the community.

This position is located at the Alleghany Center, Sparta, NC.

Duties include:
Facilities and Plant Management duties include:
1. Assumes primary responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Alleghany Center.
2. Procurs appropriate off-campus sites for instructional programs, as needed, and managing the day-to-day operations of such locations.
3. Supervises the scheduling of classrooms and other areas for the Alleghany Center to ensure efficient operations.
4. Develops and coordinates facility and plant maintenance schedules to ensure the center is safe, clean, and well maintained.
5. Assists with the development of and then monitoring and reviewing county and state budgets for facility and plant operations.
6. Supervises contracted services for the Alleghany Center.
7. Supervises Alleghany Center full-time, part-time and adjunct staff and faculty.
8. Serves as the primary point of contact during emergencies at the Alleghany Center.

Instructional duties include:
1. Creates the curriculum schedule and provide input for the WDCE schedule for the Alleghany Center.
2. Coordinates program assessment and improvement processes with college divisions and ensuring proper documentation of results for the programs offered at each site.
3. Coordinates the inventory and maintenance, of instructional equipment and facilities.
4. Assists with the orientation of new full-time faculty members, in conjunction with lead instructors and chairs within their respective areas.
5. Advises students within specified programs and coordinating new student orientation schedules and placement testing processes.
6. Hires qualified adjuncts for courses in curriculum, in coordination with the vice president, program lead instructors and division deans.
7. Participates in appropriate professional development activities both internally and externally
8. Serves on college committees and fulfilling assignments and other responsibilities, as determined by the vice president.
9. Offers personnel-related recommendations, determines and documents appropriate credentialing for faculty, including new positions, promotions, transfers, etc., to the vice president, and hiring qualified adjuncts for curriculum instructional programs, in coordination with program lead instructors and division deans.

Student Services duties to include:
1. Coordinates Academic Support Center services at the Alleghany Center.
2. Assists with determination of and implementing student activities at the Alleghany Center.
3. Coordinates and serves as advisor for student clubs at the Alleghany Center.
4. Assists with implementation of wrap-around services at the Alleghany Center.

Public School partnerhips:
1. Collaborate with Alleghany County School district leadership to plan and implement pathways for CCP students.
2. Coordinate marketing and outreach for WCC programs at the Alleghany Campus.
3. Identify other programming for middle and high school populations that promote alignment with career pathways.

Blue Ridge Business Development Center / Alleghany Public Library duties include:
1. Works in partnership with the Alleghany County Economic Development Commission, Blue Ridge Business Development Center, and Town of Sparta to enhance and grow the small business community of Alleghany County.
2. Develops and maintains a strong collaborative partnership with the operations of the Center while working with the Blue Ridge Business Development Center Director and the Alleghany County Library to integrate WCC programs and services to grow the Center.
3. Serves on the boards of community, regional, and state organizations as a representative of the college, with the approval of the vice president.

Community Representation duties include:
1. Promotes the mission, vision, and goals of the college through community involvement and engagement, representing the college to the communities of Alleghany County.
2. Presents information about the college and its programs to community organizations and individuals.
3. Serves on the boards of community, regional, and state organizations as a representative of the college, with the approval of the vice president.
4. Organizes and facilitates the Alleghany Center Advisory Committee meetings.
5. Assists with the distribution of scholarships to Alleghany students.
