Five years of progressively responsible administrative experience and supervisory experience in a variety of phases of retail management, purchasing, inventory control and accounting; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university in retailing, business administration; marketing, or a closely related field, or equivalent.
Bookstore, retail, or accounting management experience
The Director of Bookstore is a highly responsible position that reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Business and Finance. This individual oversees a complex College Bookstore operation, which generates approximately $7 million in annual sales.
The individual in this position plans, assigns, supervises, and reviews the work of all personnel involved in the operational and financial activities of the College’s Bookstore; creates and monitors the layout, decor, displays, and other physical aspects of the Bookstore; establishes the Bookstore marketing and merchandising program; establishes schedules and methods for providing outstanding service to students, faculty, and staff; directs the ordering and processing of textbooks and supplies; coordinates Bookstore activities with faculty, administrative staff, and other departments to ensure that textbooks and supplies carried meet the academic needs of the student population; oversees the warehouse operations of the Bookstore to ensure that merchandise is organized and appropriate inventory levels are maintained; develops and recommends new internal controls, programs, systems, policies, procedures and work plans; monitors work flows and evaluates work products, methods and procedures; participates in recommending new personnel; prepares monthly and annual financial reports; performs other duties as assigned.
