Minimum Qualifications

  1. Develop an understanding and appreciation of the mission, history, current programs, services and goals of Isothermal Community College
  2. Possess excellent skills for planning, organizing, and implementing new initiatives
  3. Ability to establish, cultivate, and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, students, peers, etc.
  4. Effective communication skills (written and oral) in a variety of settings with people from diverse backgrounds, educational levels, and age groups
  5. Ability to operate computer, mobile devices, and related software including Microsoft Office and relevant applications, and internet platforms.
  6. Possess a working knowledge of secondary and postsecondary education
  7. Independently perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects
  8. Ability to foster collaborative team-based work environment with a willingness to see tasks through to completion

 

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree, required
  2. Master’s degree, preferred
  3. Demonstrated understanding of Career and College Promise, required
  4. Demonstrated ability to build relationships within an education setting; plan, organize, and implement programs and services; and provide tracking and assessment to ensure quality, required
  5. Working knowledge of Datatel/Colleague, preferred
  6. Knowledge and practical application of student/career development theory, preferred
  7. Knowledgeable in all aspects of the student experience to include coaching, mentoring, advising, student/career services, and progression, preferred

Position Description

Statement of Primary Purpose

In support of the overall Learning College, the Director of Career and College Promise will provide guidance to students and high school level counselors in Rutherford and Polk Counties who are involved with Career and College Promise.

NC Works Career Coach

Career and College Promise Coordinator

 

Career and College Promise Responsibilities

  1. Provide guidance to students and high school level counselors in Rutherford and Polk Counties
  2. Provide information and orientation for Rutherford and Polk students and families regarding Career and College Promise offerings including home school and charter schools
  3. Assist with events designed to promote awareness of career pathways
  4. Collaborate with College personnel to prepare information related to career pathways for distribution to students and parents
  5. Establish and follow plans to ensure consistent communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, and additional stakeholders
  6. Responsible for knowledge of local high school and College policies and procedures to provide students with information and guidance to assist them in making informed decisions
  7. Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines
  8. Enrollment processing
    1. Collaborate with College staff and school personnel to determine student eligibility for enrollment
    2. Advise students
    3. Input registration materials
    4. Maintain accurate and adequate student records used to assist in advising and registration of high school students
    5. Oversee the Career and College Promise team
  9. Coordination High School Counselor training events and student engagement activities
  10. Serve as a liaison with the Accessibility Counselor for high school students enrolled in college courses
  11. Arrange and assist with placement assessment and provide assessment interpretation
  12. Develop and implement assessment methods/processes to evaluate the program quality
  13. Oversee the Career and College Promise Advisory Committee
  14. Propose and administer budget to include equipment, materials, supplies and travel
