Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and 2 years of experience in supervision/leadership OR Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and 4 years of experience in supervision/leadership
  • 2 years of experience in career counseling, workforce

Development, or related field

  • Experience building partnerships with businesses, agencies, and/or schools
  • An inclusive student-centered philosophy of providing services and resources

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred

  • Familiarity with and appreciation for the mission of a comprehensive community college
  • Experience in job placement
  • Knowledge of career development theory

Position Description

The Director, Career Development works cooperatively with other Student Affairs team members, faculty, and College staff to accomplish initiatives specifically in the Career Development Center.  The Director reports to the Dean, of Student Engagement & Completion. The Director has the following responsibilities:

 

 

  • Provides daily oversight of Career Development Center
  • Provides leadership to Career Development Center staff to include Career Coaches located at the local high schools
  • Develop and maintain relationships with employers that will provide opportunities to Davidson-Davie students
  • Research, identify, recruit, engage, and sustain opportunities for students’ internships and post-graduate job placements
  • Facilitate networking opportunities among students and alumni/contacts in industry
  • Develop a strategic outreach plan which includes analyzing recent graduate employment data; demographic student and alumni employment data; creating an annual employer recruitment report; and ongoing monitoring and evaluation of this imitative
  • Oversee the Davidson-Davie work-study process
  • Provide information on topics that affect career opportunities and advancement such as job opportunities, job search strategies, educational training opportunities, occupational outlook information, career enhancement materials, and resume writing
  • Conduct individual career counseling with students including assessments of interest, values and skills, experiential learning opportunities, major exploration, and post-graduate planning
  • Conduct program evaluation and assessment including articulating goals, objectives, and outcomes; data collecting and benchmarking; and report writing
  • Develop policies, forms, and publications as needed
  • Develop and monitor the Career Development Budget
  • Represent Davidson Davie at community, industry, and organization events as appropriate and/or as requested
  • Participate as a member of the Workforce Development Boards
  • Stay current on job trends, job search techniques, etc. and provide input on new program development that aligns with trending opportunities
  • Coordinate with other departments to identify and implement joint initiatives which would introduce new career related opportunities and benefits to students
  • Provide oversight to the Career Development component of the onboarding process
  • Provide consultation, resources, and recommendations to faculty on best practices in career-related activities
  • In collaboration with Career Development staff develop and conduct career related workshops, host job fairs, and other employer events
  • Collaborate with the Director of Academic Advising on opportunities that infuse advising and career initiatives together
  • Serve on college committees as appropriate and represent the college to off-campus groups, businesses and agencies
  • Maintain professional growth and the professional growth of your staff by participating in educational programs, professional organizations and/or activities to main knowledge of national trends in the career services field.
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the title and as assigned that support the mission of the college
