Position Description
JOB SUMMARY
To supervise the College and Career Readiness program in Tarboro, Rocky Mount, and other area sites. To ensure that quality learning opportunities are provided to students who do not have a high school diploma or who need basic education skills with the intent of their meeting their educational and vocational goals. To work closely with College and Career Readiness staff, other program coordinators, and administrators to ensure the quality of the College and Career Readiness educational program.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Recruit and hire qualified and experienced adult literacy educators
Collaborate with faculty and staff to schedule classes on a semester-by-semester basis
Maintain community relationships with the goal of establishing, implementing, and maintaining efficient off-campus sites
Assist with the employment, orientation, and training of all Basic Skills faculty and staff
Attend conferences and workshops sponsored by the NCCCS office for Basic Skills administrators
Actively recruit students into program and conduct orientation sessions for incoming students
Supervise and evaluate personnel, operations, and curriculum in the Basic Skills program at all sites
Assist full-time/part-time instructors to cover classes when needed.
Collaborate with the Latino-Hispanic Coordinator to start ESL classes.
Monitor the progress of goals and objectives for all College and Career Readiness (CCR) programs on and off-campus to include ABE, ELA, HSE, Adult High School, and Basic Skills Plus.
Monitor department budget; write planning sheets for all instructors
Assure that CCR students are aware of all college programming – curriculum division, HRD, Occupational Extension, etc.; promote all college programming opportunities to all CCR students.
Promptly and accurately, review instructors’ submitted paperwork to include LEIS reports, attendance rosters, timesheets, leave sheets, and book orders.
Oversee the proper set-up and maintenance of all student and personnel file folders.
Review LEIS data and counsel instructors on current LEIS procedures and changes
Plan and conduct instructor training programs and workshops
Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order of students enrolled in the program
Maintain certification to administer all HSE (TABE and CASAS) assessments.
Monitor all distance learning/online programming and testing (i.e. GED online, NovaNet, etc.)
Maintain familiarity with major changes that will take place with GED programming.
Acquire and prepare materials and equipment necessary to meet the program objectives
Compile and maintain timesheets and permanent files on all CCR instructors
Interact with students, parents, peers, and administrative and support staff in a consistent, organized, flexible, fair, and professional manner
Coordinate efforts to improve and maintain overall program quality through continuous observation and evaluation
Schedule appointments with students/parents for advising and assisting students in achieving their educational and vocational goals
Ensure that departmental instructors are attending state and regional workshops and trainings offered by the NCCCS office for program updates and professional development
Participate in college committees as elected or assigned
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein
