Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree in Cosmetology and Associate’s Degree in General Occupational technology from a regionally accredited institution. Must have a NC cosmetology license, a cosmetology instructor licensure and 5 years’ relevant experience.

Position Description

Responsible for the implementation and supervision of cosmetology, manicuring, instructor trainee, natural hair care, and high school cosmetology curriculum and continuing education program. Responsible for recommending, planning, and development of new programs and the evaluation and upgrading of ongoing programs.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Establish annual departmental objectives.
  • Accommodate effective coordination of State Board regulations while satisfying Nash Community College standards.
  • Maintains discovery pro software as well as data entry.
  • Efficient in the use of e procurement for ordering all office and instructional supplies
  • Maintain accurate scholastic and membership records of students enrolled in classes and submit reports according to the established schedule
  • Maintain records of high school career and college promise.
  • Prepare NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners enrollment, withdraws, transfers, graduation, and temporary work permit or other necessary documentation as required to comply with current state board of cosmetic arts, rules, and regulations.
  • Organize student proficiency exams for all cosmetology students transferring into cosmetology
  • Assess on a regular basis the success rate of students in each class taught.
  • Serve as curriculum student advisor and verify readiness for graduation.
  • Coordinate and prepare curriculum semester schedules.
  • Coordinate and prepare instructor schedule.
  • Coordinate and prepare curriculum and continuing education syllabus
  • Coordinate and maintain records of workshops, field trips, cosmetology, manicuring, instructor trainee, natural hair care, and high school cosmetology activities and accomplishments, as well as club activities.
  • Recommend budget priorities for curricula in respective department.
  • Manage department budget allocations.
  • Follow personnel procedures in the selection of full-time and part-time faculty and make recommendations to the Department Chair.
  • Communicate and coordinate activities with the other institutional departments and with department related agencies outside the institution.
  • Recommend annually members to serve on program advisory committees.
  • Ensure the effective functioning of the advisory committee for the department and to meet with program advisory committee at least once each year.
  • Ensure the effective functioning of all evening classes
  • Assess community needs and to assist the Department Chair in the planning and development of new programs and evaluation of new and ongoing programs.
  • Conduct periodic assessments and make appropriate adjustments to ensure high quality instruction.
  • Supervise faculty advisement, including placement of students in courses and programs.
  • Supervise and evaluate personnel in the department and make appropriate recommendations to the Department Chair.
  • Responsible for matters of internal control, including equipment inventory, supplies, approval of textbooks, travel, supervision of work-study students, and approval of all types of leaves and arrangements for leaves and staff development activities.
  • Coordinate public relation efforts with the Department Chair and the Vice President of Institutional Advancement.
  • Initiate and ensure implementation of formal evaluation of programs within the department.
  • Perform those functions listed under the instructor’s job description and serve on committees.
  • Attend annual graduation exercises. 
  • Maintain regular and consistent on-site attendance during normal hours of college operations in fulfillment of duties not inconsistent with the expectations for full-time faculty and College policies and procedures.
  • Maintain stationary position, sitting or standing, for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally traverse classrooms and campus to provide instruction, advising, and instructional support.
  • Occasionally lift, move, transport, install, or remove items weighing up to 15 pounds.
  • Initiate and answer telephone calls and video conference calls.
  • Drive to remote instructional sites or other locations in performance of duties.
  • Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by the Department Chair and Chief Academic Officer.
  • Participate in professional development activities provided by NCC.
  • Participate in College events and activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned which contribute to the efficient and effective operation of NCC.
  • Serve on various committees as assigned.
  • Participate in and support ongoing assessment, planning and evaluation to improve student learning.
